Gotta' show some support...
No.
Holy damn!
Criterion wasn't kidding when they said they wanted to do their own serious restoration! In an perfect world, you'd want them to do the whole series!
That would take MONEY and EFFORT and require that Toho actually gave a ****. They don't. T______T
Ouch. Kind of sad some American company with little connection to Godzilla does a better job than Godzilla's own company. Hopefully this inspires Toho to make a better transfer for the next release.
Exciting news for *Godzilla* fans! The Criterion Collection has just teased a photo of the Interpositive 35mm film cans for the original *Godzilla*, promising a much-needed restoration after the less-than-impressive release from Classic Media. If their track record with films like *Seven Samurai* is anything to go by, we can expect a truly stunning version of this iconic monster movie. Here's hoping the King of Monsters gets the Criterion treatment it truly deserves! The Criterion Collection posted a revealing photo on their Facebook page yesterday — the film cans for the Interpositive 35mm for the original GODZILLA! This film, while released on DVD & BD five years ago by Classic Media, looked like crap. Criterion has done miracles with classic international cinema, such as their wonderful restoration on Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI (1954) — I'm sure that GODZILLA will receive the same treatment:
