One of the most heartbreaking episodes of Ultraman Dyna was when Hanejiro left Earth, near the end of the show. Since I don't speak Japanese, it was difficult to understand what was going on. I hope someone on these boards can answer a few questions, please:
First, what does "Hanejiro" translate as? Absolute Ultraman translates hane as "wing", but what does jiro mean?
In this episode, Hanejiro was clearly some sort of celebrity, since SuperGUTS had to spend some time answering his e-mails. But, I never saw any episode where his prescence was revealed to the general population of Earth. So, how did the people of Earth find out about him - and why was he so well loved?
Why did the aliens kidnap the deputy captain and the sharpshooter? And, then, even after they'd gotten Hanejiro, plainly intended to *keep* them?
Who, or what was Hanejiro to these aliens in the first place? Why did they *invade* to get him when all they had to do was ask?
What was the TPC, ie., the government's reaction to this? They certainly didn't seem interested in mounting any sort of rescue mission...
After Hanejiro released the deputy captain and the sharpshooter, one of the aliens decides to attack Earth *anyway*, forcing Asuka to defend the planet. Why? And why did the aliens *back down* once Dyna defeated the attacker - with Hanejiro's help?
Finally, why did Hanejiro feel that he *HAD* to leave Asuka and Earth? It was pretty clear he was heartbroken at doing so, considering he made sure to personally say goodbye to *both* Dyna and Asuka - even though he knew they were one and the same person.
