Whatcha gonna do when the Clone Cops come for you? Freestyle Digital Media has announced they are distributing a new dystopian comedy across VOD platforms at the end of this month, as well as limited theatrical screenings. In the future, the Nefaricorp conglomerate “dominates human existence through high tech, great deals, and free delivery.” How do they do it? Through clones! Their Replicants (hope that’s not a copyrighted term) perform any task they’ve been bred for, which brings us to the day they introduced Clone Cops: soulless soldiers who were programmed to do one thing — kill, and that’s pretty much it. Now a whole army of them have discovered the hideout of a gang of outlaws, who must defend their territory any way possible. The mix of dystopia, clones, and comedy makes this an interesting proposition. It’s always a gamble with films like this—sometimes they’re brilliant, and other times they miss the mark entirely. I like that the director is hyped about sharing it with a broader audience; that kind of energy often reflects well on the final product. I’m going in with moderate expectations but plenty of curiosity!
 
It feels like I’ve seen similar ideas before in bigger-budget films, and I’m worried this might not offer much that’s new. Still, I respect the effort it takes to make an indie movie like this. Maybe I’ll give it a chance if the reviews are decent, but I won’t go out of my way for it.
