The Bold Choices of Ari Aster: Which Film Do You Prefer?

Ari Aster has quickly carved out a unique niche in horror with his films "Hereditary" and "Midsommar," both of which challenge the genre in different ways. "Hereditary" hits hard with its psychological horror and family trauma, while "Midsommar" immerses us in a bright, almost dreamlike atmosphere that contrasts its unsettling themes. Personally, I found "Midsommar" to be a more ambitious exploration of grief, but "Hereditary" left a lasting impression with its haunting finale. What about you? Which Aster film do you think is better and why?

I get what you're saying about "Midsommar," but I think the film's approach to grief sometimes feels a bit too abstract compared to the raw emotional impact of "Hereditary." The way Aster portrays family trauma in the latter hits you in the gut, especially with that gut-wrenching finale. I can't shake the feeling that "Midsommar" doesn't quite reach the same depth, despite its striking visuals and atmosphere.
