When Nintendo announced a new Indie World video would be making the rounds this morning, everyone assumed we’d see a trailer for the highly anticipated Hollow Knight sequel, Silksong. We did….not get that, because whenever these trailer compilations happen, it’s NEVER the thing you want. We did, however, take home a swell consolation prize…the first real look at Sea of Stars and a release window for it.
There was a Kickstarter campaign for this game last year. It’s by Sabotage Studio, creators of The Messenger, and set in the same world (but we’re told you don’t have to play the earlier game to “get” this one). While The Messenger was a tribute to action-oriented 8-bit platformers, Sea of Stars is an RPG that takes its inspiration from 16-bit epics like Chrono Trigger. And thanks to the lucrative campaign and its stretch goals, Yasunori Mitsuda, who did the music for the Chrono games, is composing tunes for Sea of Stars too! It’s due out about a year from now...
