SSAF-07 Masked Rider Agito

Got this in the mail today and figured I'd do up a little something. SSAF stands for Super Suits Action Figure. The figures are about 13" tall. I know there are a couple of Kuuga ones as well, but I love Agito so I had to get this one. I got this through Yahoo Japan (thanks to EX_Japan!) and it has been opened prior. OK, enough of this, onto the good stuff:





Very nice box. Shows all of the forms available and some good live-action shots on the back of the box. Let's open it up.



The box has a flap lid, allowing you to see all the contents inside. The upper flap points out all the joints on the body on the left and the names of the various armor pieces on the right.



But what about the figure?



He comes secured in the plastic already in Grand/Ground Form.

But there are more goodies to be found! Here's the instructions and stickers for the weapons...and...what's that in the back?



It is a copy of the painting in the Agito opening. I did not know this was included and was absolutely thrilled to discover it when I opened the box. I'm getting this thing framed. It's a good size: 9" x 13".



And we can flip through the manual...









After getting the figure out some issues start to appear. I initially assumed this was pretty much a giant Souchaku Henshin figure. I was partially right. The armor is made of a more bendable plastic, almost rubber. And the undersuit is a thin vinyl layer over cloth. For whatever reason, be it the age or the owner before me, the vinyl had begun to shred. I ended up peeling off the entire layer, and was disappointed with this part of the figure. So how does the figure look?



Here he is in Ground Form. He comes with an alternate face piece with the open horns. Missed getting a pic of that on this form.

The figure also has a light up feature. There is an on/off switch on his back. Turn it to on and his eyes light up. Then press the side of his belt and the Altering lights up too.



Note the vinyl is tearing, particularly on the right leg. Also of interest is that the silver accents on his shins are painted on the vinyl. So as of now my figure is missing those. But it's not a big deal.

Changing up the armor to Flame Form.



With this Altering piece (they are held on by magnets, BTW) the right side is transparent allowing the red circle to light up. The Flame Sword also has the pieces of the hilt that fold out.



Next is Storm Form.



Same deal here. This time the left side of the Altering lights up blue. The Storm Halberd extends as well.



Using parts from all three armor sets we can create Trinity Form





And one last pic for good measure



In conclusion the figure is good, but not without its flaws. The major flaw is the use of the cloth/vinyl for the body glove. A simple black plastic body would have worked just as well.

wow! O_O a large scale figure than i had Gundam Exia. i hope to order at stores involves with Super Sentai, Kamen Rider or Tokusatsu.

Nice review! I've seen one of these around my area for a while used, but with the same problem- the body suit is damaged because of the material they used.

From what I know, these were Bandai's attempt at trying to do a Medicom/Timehouse-type figure at a more affordable price, which is why they went with the rubbery cloth stuff rather than just plastic joints, trying to pull off the same trick. A noble attempt, though it's a shame about how easily damaged they can become.

I have some of the Kuuga figures and they had a nice secret extra too- reproductions of Godai's business cards. I would have liked to see this line live on with some improvement, because it showed a lot more promise than the Twist Action Form figures are (and they're yet again an attempt to do a high-concept figure at a low price.)

I still think making these a giant Sochaku Henshin figure would have been a better method.

any chance you might be able to get a good HQ scan of that? perhaps a friend at a print shop, or hell going to a print shop in general?

But I'm really interested to see a comparison of this Agito with the new Medicom-RAH version.
