FF7 Square Thinks They Can Get The FF7 Trilogy Done By 2027

Final Fantasy VII (1997): Mercenary Cloud Strife joins eco-terrorists to fight a megacorporation draining the planet’s life force. Its cinematic scope, Sephiroth, and 3D leap made it a global phenomenon. AKA Final Fantasy 7, FF7, FFVII

As I’ve been progressing through FF7 Rebirth these past few weeks, one thing has become clear: a ton of work went into it. The game contains way more content than I’ll probably ever see or complete. It took four years to get this to us, so does that mean we can expect the third and final part of the trilogy in another four? Series director Tetsuya Nomura thinks it can actually be done in three. This bit of information comes from the new behind-the-scenes book Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Ultimania. The book isn’t out yet but Twitter user aitaikimochi has obtained an advance copy. Nomura said that, at the time of the interview, the story outline for Part 3 had been locked down and they were about to start recording voices. He revealed the development time for FF7 Rebirth was actually three years, not four, but that extra year was spent creating DLC content (which we guess will be revealed soon). So he figures the third and final chapter can

Glad they will finish it despite of the low sales of Rebirth. The Multiverse thing alienated some people to buy

2027? That seems optimistic. Don't get me wrong, I loved Rebirth, but it felt massive. Three years to build something on that scale again seems tight. Reusing assets helps, sure, but there's still a story to craft, environments to design, and the combat to fine-tune. I'd rather Square Enix take their time and deliver a masterpiece than rush something out. Besides, waiting a little longer would make that 30th anniversary release all the sweeter.

Knowing the core team is back and the story's already outlined just fuels the hype. Plus, Uematsu returning for the soundtrack? It's a dream come true! I can already picture the epic boss battles and the emotional moments his music will enhance. These next three years will be a blur, but oh man, that final chapter will be worth it.

Square Enix has a history of ambitious release dates that get pushed back. Remember Versus XIII? We all know what became of that. Don't get me wrong, I adore FF7 and gobbled up Rebirth. But complexity breeds delays, and this trilogy is shaping up to be intricate. Reusing assets helps, but there's a limit. Voice acting taking just a year for a game this size? Sounds suspect. Keeping the same team is a double-edged sword. Familiarity is good, but fresh perspectives can breathe new life into a project. Uematsu's involvement is fantastic, but his health is a concern. I wouldn't be surprised if this timeline gets extended. It's better to wait for a polished experience than a rushed one. Besides, waiting a few extra years might mean the next-gen hardware is more mature, offering an even better experience.

Hold on, wait a minute. Weren't there supposed to be five parts? I distinctly remember whispers about a five-part remake saga. Did the pandemic really throw a wrench in those plans? That's a bummer. Don't get me wrong, a 2027 release for the final chapter sounds great, but three parts feels a bit rushed. Reusing assets can only go so far, especially if they planned to explore the vast world beyond Midgar in more detail. A smaller, more focused story could still be amazing, but a five-part structure felt like a more natural way to do FF7 justice. Here's hoping they can cram everything they wanted into this final chapter. Maybe the DLC will bridge some of those gaps? Either way, FF7 is FF7, and I'll definitely be there for the conclusion in 2027.

Absolutely buzzing about the news for Part 3! Three years feels like a long wait, but knowing the development team is already charging ahead makes it a little easier to bear. I bet they're chomping at the bit to finally bring this epic saga to a close after all this hard work. Here's hoping Square Enix takes good care of them to avoid burnout!

Now, onto the dream wishlist for the final chapter! Air travel like in Ghost Recon: Wildlands would be a game-changer. Soaring above the vast landscapes of the world would be incredible. Underwater exploration? Sign me up! Imagine uncovering hidden secrets beneath the waves, maybe even encountering some monstrous aquatic life. Bone Village, Condor Flats, the whole shebang – exploring those iconic areas with the power of next-gen graphics would be a dream come true. And new chocobo breeds with unique abilities? My inner materia hunter is already salivating! The possibilities are endless, and with the same team at the helm, I have faith they'll deliver an unforgettable experience. Here's to a 2027 filled with epic adventures and a satisfying conclusion to the FF7 Remake saga!
