That's right. Activision is canning Spyro's platforming adventures and replacing them with a toy line/collectathon hybrid.

This is just soooooooooo ridiculous. What's next, Crash Bandicoot: The Dating Sim? :laugh:

Personally I don't find the concept all that bad an idea, though it is obviously designed as a money-maker first and foremost, and the character design is a little bit off-putting, at least at first glance.

Apparently they do have some interesting and well credited people behind the project: the screenwriters who wrote Toy Story, Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, will be writing the script for the game; Shrek character designer, Tom Hester, is working on the art; and major Hollywood composer, Hanz Zimmer, will be doing the music.

I'll just leave this article with a bit more info (includes a brief live demo, and a few character bios) here for those who are that curious.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,NO! NO way they trashing my first game (as in Spryro 2 Ripto's Rage/Gateway to Gimmer) character to THAT.
It was bad enough when they did that "The Legend of Spryo" all-so-very-serious thing. Something like that happened with the Spiderman movies- the comicbook character is a non-stop joker, movie version......a not-so-funny-wimpie.
