SPD Appreciation

I was watching some episodes today, not just the "favorites" but just a mini marathon of sorts and I just had to give some props to SPD. One thing in particular I want to say is how amazing Doggie was as a character. The suit was truly remarkable and lifelike. John Tui delivered an insanely beautiful performance for the character, he instantly comes to life.

It's just on some of my viewings I'll notice how the suit can close it's eyes slowly, as if for dramatic effect. Or he can blink fast. His lip movements, his posture. It's fantastic. Doggie is a character that truly came to life in SPD. Not to say anything bad about Doggie of Dekaranger. He was a good suit too but... SPD's was another thing all together. The way he speaks, blinks, his voice.

There was a scene where he was talking low, speaking of the last moments on his home planet in Shadow part 1. And he was so amazing how much life the suit had. His mouth would move and when he closed it, with his voice a low rumble of regret, you can see his neck twitch as if he was swallowing.

I just started to notice and appreciate the little things and I felt like saying something about it. SPD is a fantastic season in my opinion. I hope Jungle Fury returns to the SPD roots of story writing and characters.

Let's hope Sha-fu's equivalent is even HALF as good as Doggie was.

I get the feeling we probably won't get a kitty mentor. But if we do, I hope they don't just use the Shafu suit. I think we could do better. But it would probably be cheaper for them (with the low budget) to just use a non suit character to lead them.

To me SPD is very underrated. I mean Bruce hadn't done an entire season in the past so he was only learning the ropes of PR. People need to give him a break. Dekaranger had no plot and SPD had to copy from Deka because of Disney's laziness. I think if SPD did a orginal storyline with a lot of help from Jackie, John, and Greg SPD could have been better then what it was. But I still think SPD was one hell of a great season.:thumbs:

I'd be fine with the Shafu suit if it had REAL HANDS. I mean all the other Kensei have working hands, but Sha-fu got those ridiculous little stubs!

It's really the only thing I'd change from the Sha-fu suit...and maybe a better wardrobe. I mean the other Kensei look SO much better than him, it's a bit annoying.

I have a love/hate relationship with SPD.

I love it because it had interesting characters, one badass mentor, and was just an overall stylish show.

But I hate it because it had those "Kalishisms". You know what I'm talking about.

Doggy Crudger was pretty cool.

I loved the episode where Doggie became Shadow Ranger. When the theme starts playing up and he starts bitch SLASHING the baddie, it was awesome.

I think the cast also had great chemistry.

What is this "Kalish" that I'm suddenly hearing so much about?
