Something about Hesei Rider Shows...

A simple passerby...
This has been bugging me ever since Kiva aired...

Well, haven't you guys notice that the more we get away from older shows, the more "closed in" the show is? I mean look at Kuuga. The series had a lot of characters, such as the cops, the teachers, his sister, the Grongi, Sakura, Ichijou and shits more.

New shows are more closed in. take Kiva for example, it's revolved around what, 10 characters only!? And that seems to be IT for the show. About 10 characters is the whole world in the show, and they bump into each other quite TOO MUCH.

Also about Den-O, it's basically Ryotarou and his Den-Liner crew plus Yuto and Deneb and Airi. That's all the series is revolved around.

Sure Kuuga was revolved around Yuusuke becoming Kuuga and fighting for innocent lives, but you see MANY more characters around. Plus it seems more REALISTIC with the situations and all. Kiva just threw in a guy who got his life energy sucked, and there wasn't even NEWS or COPS running around or even investigators looking for clues. It's just as if the whole world is just them which makes the show boring for a long while.

Agito did a pretty good job like Kuuga did. Ryuki was good as well and so was Faiz, though on Faiz, it could have involved more police in it. Blade was a little more into it's own world, then we have Hibiki, not much news or police running around, just Onis beating the Makomou. Kabuto was doing good in some episodes, but some episodes just went "the world is around Tendou and Zect". Den-O just cut off, by involving so less people, and a few victims or the Imagins...

I mean, at one point we have Kai rampaging, destroying everything, where are the Special Forces!? The hospital got attacked by the Death Imagin, where are the security guards defending it? It's as if the world is just blank...

The Rider
The Also-Ran
The Girl
The Shop/Restaurant Owner
The Second Rider
The Extra Girl

There you go. That's the cast of most Heisei Rider Shows. Followed by:

The Bad Guy (With a Heart of Gold)
The Real Bad Guy

After that, there are changes depending on the show, but that's the basic idea for most of them. They show newcasts or cops when they're important to what's happening right now, but generally they don't care.

Have you noticed how unrealistic things have been? It annoys the heck out of me and most of my friends who watches Toku. Things have become so unbelievable at points that it gets frustrating to watch. And please, no "Then don't watch it" posts. I like the show, but it just doesn't HAVE that thing I expect from it...

I get your point, but if you think about realism, then think about this. One episode of Kuuga, 20 cops die. How many cops do you think staff an average station? After 2 or 3 episodes of that, there should've been no cops left. But there were.

Again, I agree with your point, they could use some more flavor, but if they had it, would you notice it? Or do you just notice the absence?

If they had more flavor to it, I wouldn't notice the absence. I would just not say what I'm saying right now, and enjoy the show for it's awesomeness and that it doesn't just make things up as it goes.

I meant, does it matter enough to spend money and time creating the flavor? For instance, I've often wondered, when a monster explodes after being Rider Kicked...who cleans up the debris? Or when they fight outside of an office building, where are all of the scared office workers? But then I've been reminded of time where I see people running from monsters. Do these people really make an impact? Or do we just gloss over it?

This is more an academic question then me trying to make a point.

ya, i've noticed it too.. since the kamen rider show involved monsters attacking people or civilians, then police force or policemen must be one of the characters throughout the shows whether directly or indirectly..

one more thing, during a battle between kamen riders n monsters, i found out that when the battle took place at some place outdoor or on a street, i was amazed that there is no single people on the streets, not even cars.. although sometimes they did show the people running away, but there is still some scenes when there is no people around.

one more thing i don understand abt kiva.. there seems to be many fangire that survives 22 yrs till 2008.. although yuri, jirou, or otoya faught with the fangires during 1986, but they din kill those fangires.. in fact, they just forget abt the fangires after the next episode, without trying to track them down..

what do u think?

Yeah that's what I hate about Toei. They just want profit so much, that they overlooked the fact that something VERY important is missing at the moment. You can't just have Osama Bin Laden blowing up things without news or police trying to track him down, could you? It's just that Toei's been more concerned about money that they overlooked something which is as important as the show itself. Without those things I've mentioned, the show is just like a game where characters have problems and relates to their past, then they meet a monster and just fights them, you win and fight another guy until the end of the series you get to the boss...

Well, if you think about it, the original Rider series had a bigger regular cast than V3, and that had a bigger regular cast than the next couple. There's a point in X where the regular heroic characters are literally two guys (and the narrator, if you want to really stretch it) and everybody else is bad to the bone. And then the numbers start going up again after that. I just think these things work in waves. Kuuga has a particularly big cast, I'm expecting Decade's to be massive by the end unless most of the cast in the different worlds are just going to be guest roles.
