Social Networking Sites, Unnecessary?

Okay, so it seems many of my friends are kinda annoyed at me recently, simply because I don't have a Friendster, MySpace, Multiply, or any of those social networking sites, account. And some of them are (angrily) telling me to create one.

Thing is, I'm just too lazy to do it. Yes. I have all the time in the world to create and maintain a social networking site account, but...I don't know. It's really kinda...uhh...boring and unnecessary.

So, what do you all guys think? Am I a loser for not having one of these?
You have HJU account that you use on almost a daily basis to socialize and chat about stuff with people around the world you probably will never meet but you fail to make a simple Facebook so you can socialize with your IRL friends that live in your area and attend your school/ surrounding schools?

idk, dont know what to say to that. I have a Facebook basicly to keep up with my friends outside of school and talk to other friends that currently go to other schools I dont get to see normally. I rarely add people or use it to talk to people I dont know or dont have a chance of actually meeting IRL. It makes things easier too when they want to tell me something quickly and dont want to wait until school to let me know, I can just get the message in my Facebook inbox.

Whenever my friends complained that I don't have Facebook/myspace/whatever, I just told them:

"Look, I value your friendship enough that I'm willing to actually make the effort and take the time to send you an email, or to call you up and talk to you, or to come and visit you at home or at your work to actually hang out instead of just posting random **** on a website which you may or may not see. Also, the majority of **** that gets posted on those blog sites are just miniscule/irrelevant stuff that you didn't really need to know as it's just NOT that big of a deal, right?

*AT THIS POINT THEY NOD*

Then whenever I make the effort to personally contact you, you KNOW that I'm not going to be wasting your time, right? You know that I've got something important/significant/relevant to discuss with you.

Call me corny, but REAL friendship, like what we have, is and SHOULD be more than just a few typed up words on a webpage."

*AT THIS POINT THEY CONTINUE NODDING AND STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT MY NOT HAVING A FACEBOOK/MYSPACE/WHATEVER*

It seems I'm getting a rather...mixed response here. :P

To be honest, Keith Justice do have strong points. Yes, it's true that many of my friends wanted to keep in touch with me even from far away (hence, demanding me to create a, in the Filipinos' case, Friendster account). But really. I'm just too darn lazy to make one.

And OverdrivePrime, true enough. Laziness is a very lame excuse to not have one. Creating one is one thing, BUT updating it is another (especially when you're not a picture whore).

I guess here's what I gonna do first.

1. If I made plenty of friends around HJU here, I might just start a Facebook account.

2. I'll just create a Friendster account and a Multiply account for my Filipino friends WHEN I have migrated to New Zealand.

Whatever I do, though, I'd stay way from MySpace, due to the band reputation I've heard from them...

A miss conception of these things is also that you "have to update it and upkeep it."

You just have to fire it up and use it as much or as little as you want. But at least your friends can better contact you.

Right you are, Keith! The default settings (of Facebook anyway) let you know by e-mail when someone you know sends you a message or writes on your wall or comments on a photo or posted item. That way you can decide to respond or not even without logging in to Facebook. It's almost too easy.
