Smash Bros. Brawl - An Advanced Review

Well most of you know where I work. And as such, I've had the game since Monday (it was even given to me :169:). Keith asked if I could do an advanced review of the game, so here it is....

From the opening cinema you know what to expect in this game. A free for all with all your favorite Nintendo characters! But wait, there’s not just Nintendo characters this time!! Solid Snake & Sonic the Hedgehog join in the fight as well.

With over 30 characters and 60 or so maps (not counting the create-a-map) this game is HUGE! The fighting is SPOT-ON with tight controls and dizzying speed. Speaking of controls, this game has every control scheme under the sun. You can play w/ the Classic Controller, Wii Remote, Wii Remote & Nunchuk, or GameCube Controller. But that’s not all, you can even customize the button settings to your liking in each of the controller formats!

Game play is almost exactly the same as Melee, so if you’re a pro at that game, you’ll have no problems here. If you’ve never played Melee, don’t worry cause Brawl is easy as hell to pick up and start having fun with.

Single player has the standard Brawl format which takes you through 11 levels as well as bonus stages and finally the final boss. If you happen to unlock a character, there is one more fight. And to make that character selectable from the fighters, he/she must be bested in battle (which is easier said than done some times). You also have a mode called The Subspace Emissary which is an adventure mode w/ breathtaking cut-scenes. Rounding out the things you can do are Training, Stadium (where you can play some mini games) and Events where you put your skills to the test in a series of challenges.

Of course people are going to want to play each other in Brawl and there is no shortage of what you can do w/ multiple people! Of course there is the standard all out Brawl (w/ up to four players), but you can also set up a Tournament style Brawl and also customize all the rules in the game! And let’s not forget the whole thing is online as well. With random matches w/ strangers or battling friends (I have yet to do anything through WiFi yet).

For unlockables, the trophies are back as well as a coin type mini game to get more of them. There are also stickers that can be acquired and will help add bonuses in the Subspace Emissary game. There are also movies (including the cut scenes from Subspace Emissary, and the various promo movies from the various trade shows), music (which is some of the BEST music for a game ever!), and even demos of Virtual Console games.

I know my review of the game isn’t going to make anyone go out and pick it up. Let’s face it, most of you are going to pick it up regardless off what I say. When it comes to renting or buying through, I recommend buying it! Unless you really hate fighting games, you’ll want to own Brawl.

After owning this game for over a month since it came out here at the end of January ([evil]hahaha![\evil]) I have to agree. It's worth the wait.

i heard they took out all of the advanced stuff from melee such as wave-dashing and the l cancel, can anybody confirm this?

Unless if the character you were good with was Falco or Shiek, or you were an edgehog with Marth

Seriously Zelda became so incredibly powerful now, she's definitely top tier with Fox and Marth

I can confirm Wave-Dash but didn't try L Cancel, theres some new "tricks" in the game like foxtrotting (which is a new dashdance but improved upon and all characters can use it)
