Shinken Pink: Shut Up Bitch, Go Fix Me a Turkey Pot Pie

No one else here has either. I swear the more you post the more it looks like you are either making this up as you go along, or you just don't have any coherent thought process going.

No one here did. The show did by writing Mako the way she is.

Am I the only one who watches j-dramas? This representational gap doesn't really exist there.

It's because most dramas are written for adults, usually either adults of both genders or an audience that will be tilted slightly toward females. So the producers will put in more progressive and interesting female characters because they know that one way or another, that's what the audience will like.

Little kid's entertainment in Japan is really strictly gender-segregated for some reason, and Super Sentai is ultimately for six-year-old boys these days. That means female characters are an afterthought. Male characters in shows for little girls tend to be just as lousy and second-class, though. It's because producers tend to assume that only kids of the target gender are watching.

It's a little disconcerting to see as an American because virtually all TV shows for kids here are made to be mixed-gender or slightly more for boys with thought put into the fact girls are probably watching. This is just not the case in Japan where there are tons of shows specifically for little girls (and there have been for 20 or 30 years, easy).

So I find it kind of hilarious to bitch about what the gender roles in Super Sentai are saying to little girls-- chances are there are very few little girls watching Shinkenger who aren't just sitting through it without much interest because they know Fresh Pretty Cure is on an hour later. Where Shinkenger is a pretty lousy show in terms of entertaining little girls, Fresh Pretty Cure is really awesome.

You mean a caring person who thinks more about her friends and saving the world than she does about herself? Yeah she is such a bitch. How dare she.

And tells kids that women should stay in the kitchen looking pretty, never think about working or trying to achieve anything unless it is for the benefit of a man or a bunch of screaming children.

Now I know you don't even watch Shinkenger.

It is clearly what she wants. What about episode 24 (I think) where she is in the dream world and her dream is her making all sorts of fancy food that would probably take days? That is the Japanese ideal of a housewife - always cooking and slaving around after others.

No. She can't cook at all and had the dream that she could cook. You are just off the deep end. It has become very clear that you are desperately trying to read your agenda into a fun show. There is little point in any of us even discussing this with you any longer. It seems like you enjoy being sad and upset about things that are not even real.

Suits me. You might think I have problems but at least I don't think it right for a kids' show to have a man hitting the woman he'll likely be married to by the end of the series.
