Sentai Changeman & Magiranger DVDs

Your backs? Well, no offense to anyone but don't fucking upload anything if its a problem. and eventually run out of stuff to sell? Sorry but as long as the series is airing and japanese vendors sell to internationally, that is highly unlikely. ]

Damn, its sad to see these days what uploaders sinking opinions have achieved

Actually it's sad to see these days where leechers download and turn around and resell for PROFIT. I can understand if they were doing it at cost of the DVD/CD plus shipping and handling but not for profit.

And Kyo is right, it is off the backs of those who are willing to share with others for FREE. Let me drag Forever Knight's recent problem into this post. Had he been selling TVN subs (specifically Magi and Justiriser) for profit I would have been pissed off because I put my hard work into timing, editing and typesetting. Many of the fonts used in both were bought and paid for by me (which is why I was pissed that after I quit that TVN continued to use my paid fonts, styles and effects without crediting me in the least). I put in alot of time into my work and if FK was selling my work for profit, I'd be pissed off as much as KR. I may not be part of the group BUT it's still MY work in those series.

As for the uploaders. I can see in the download forum that only the same people tend to fill requests, I rarely see the leecher who made the request (or others who downloaded as well) reply to a later request. Personally, I've slowed down in replying to those requests because it's not worth wasting my bandwidth especially since 9 times out of 10 I actually own the CD where the rips came from. I'll share with people whom I think "deserve" it or people I consider online friends.

Tokyo-Nights recently changed their direct-download system after it was removed for several months. Now you have to "pay" in order to download. No, not pay with cash buy pay with points you earn by contributing to the forums. I currently hold a News Contributor title there and post when I can. I upload torrents from music I own. I seed files, I download, well past the 1:1 ratio (one had a 12:1 ratio). I contribute to their Wiki. I post links and images (and will be doing that more often as well). I contribute to earn my points and earn my title.

As for "Japanese vendors", I've NEVER encountered a Japanese bootlegger who sell stuff. I've encountered people who sell official Japanese items but not bootlegs.

It's not hard for people to download things for free off of Winny. I can't stress enough to people how EASY it is to use DESPITE the fact that it's 100% in Japanese. I don't know much Japanese and when I began I knew NO Japanese kanji but I used CDJapan and Neowing to look up titles (still do but I also use the official sites to grab the titles). It's not hard to use and the excuse that a person's connection is too slow is just that, an excuse. My download ratio for P2P has been recently capped. It pisses me off that I'm getting, at most, 15 kbps but I still continue to download my stuff even if it takes three days versus the few hours of before.

It's disgusting and shameful for ANYONE to sell items for a profit when they got the items for free. And while the RIAJ isn't as strict as the RIAA, they DO still go after people from time to time for selling bootlegs.

There actually used to be auctions on Yahoo Japan with VHS and DVD copies of shows (especially ones that didn't have a VHS/DVD/LD release officially) being sold for around 10,000 yen each. At least until Yahoo seemed to crack down on bootlegs...

Maybe it's because I'm used to the days when downloads weren't as easy to come by (meaning that you did have to pay if you wanted to see a show, sometimes outrageous prices). But I just don't understand the fuss made about people who sell RAWs. The fan sub angle, I obviously understand. But if someone uploads a RAW show or an MP3 or even scanning pages of a book, then they're taking the chance of other people taking credit (providing they share it) or selling it off. It could be frustrating for the uploader, yes, but that's all it can be since it's not their property. There's no "right" or wrong -- it's just wrong, it's all piracy, so I can't understand why people puts themselves upon pedestals and raise their noses on certain things. Uploading a CD you bought for everyone to download instead of buy is just as wrong as selling a burnt copy.

Really? Because all the auctions I've seen had been official releases. Some are actually video rentals (which groups like TVN now buy and use) that are official releases but not made towards the general public. Let's take Justiriser for example. Justiriser rentals on VHS and DVD came out about six months before the official boxset releases. Video rental places can then sell those later if they want which is what I typically find on Yahoo Auctions Japan.

Look, I've had my feet in the warez community for years before I left it in 2000. Even the "legitimate" warez groups wouldn't sell pirated stuff but there are some who would and thus really brought it down for everyone else in the community. I saw many of the bigger and older groups shut down, their members arrested and imprisioned even if they weren't selling and it was all because of asses who took the stuff and turned around to sell. I got out of the warez community because it was too risky. I had too many friends arrested go to jail because of it.

Part of the reason why I'm anti-selling is because I've seen what happened in the warez community when people began to sell stuff. It attracts the wrong attention. It doesn't matter if the stuff come from Japan, the fact is that if a person is selling it and someone takes offense and reports it then it brings unwanted attention to those who are sharing for free. Just because the RIAJ doesn't actively go out like the RIAA doesn't mean that the RIAJ is turning a blind eye.

At the local flea market, earlier this year, a woman was selling bootlegs from Mexico for $5. She was arrested, her items taken by the FBI and police and she was later tried and convicted of selling bootlegs. She's currently in jail for the next three years and will have to pay several hundred thousand in restitution. None of the stuff she was selling was music from the States, it was Mexican music.

The other part of why I'm anti-selling I've already stated above. It's not fair to those of us who share for free and makes us not want to share what we have.

I know thanks to several members here at HJU, I will no longer be sharing my own collection that comes from my own CDs. I just don't trust some members here and fear that the stuff I bought and was sharing will turn around and sell it at profit. Thanks to them, the only way I'll share are to those who I know don't resell and on sites that I know leeching is more difficult to do (like T-N).

Keep in mind, that while I and Kyo may not like people selling and will be vocal about it, there are others who will report bootleggers (and the forums they promote themselves at) to the appropriate authorities and web hosts. I know one particular person, who lurks here, who LOVES to report sites and people. He reported Mishicorp's forums to some anti-piracy group and Modoki had to close his forums down for a while.

Also, VBulletin's license also prohibits sites from using their forums to promote illegal things. I know that for a fact because one group had a legitimate license from VB and VB came along and told us to shut down because we had links to sites that had pirated items. That certain someone can EASILY go to VB, report HJU to them and get HJU shut down and Keith's licensed pulled, 'cause Keith to lose out on the money he paid for the license.

If people want to continue to sell bootlegs, that's up to them, I already know the results of what happens to those who sell bootlegs. I've already seen groups and sites shut down because of it and if you guys want to continue do that and bring unwanted attention then that's on your heads, not mine.

Yes, it's all piracy. BUT there is a difference between:
1. Pirates who encode TV shows so that others who don't live in that country can see those TV shows, and do so free of charge.
2. Money-hungry 'fans' who download said shows, burn them on DVD and sell them for 40-50-60USD.

The same logic that applies to fansubs applies to raws: people put in hard work to offer it to other fans, for FREE.
I don't see why it would be wrong to sell fansubs for a huge profit, and for raws it would be OK to do so.

It's not about giving or taking credit, it's about making money off the backs of the raw providers, seeders and the ones who own the legal rights. Sharing it for free so people can view a few episodes is one thing, but selling the whole series ILLEGALLY for HUGE PROFIT is another thing.

Besides, I've shared plenty of shows that haven't been released onto DVD officially yet. I do that FOR FREE. Other bastards download those shows and sell them for a huge profit to fans who don't know it's possible to get these encodes for free.

It sickens me to see how low the fandom has fallen.

Ok I have read this thread and xforgivemex you are taking this way out of proportion. I have been trading for nearly 3 years now, seen 100s of sets, created over 50+ sets and I do stay on top what is out their, bottom line is the way your acting screams scammer.

First off you overrated your sets, thats your first mistake. kyo28 was pointing out that fact and 2nd you avoid the question what you would rate official releases.

That is 2 things which would scream scamer to any trader who knows better, the third will be your attitude and how you dealt with it. it was a full of excuses and no decent response.

You even said that you will leave, that just speaks character and shows that you were avoiding them in general and just wanted sympathy for the plight.

Now i don't know you, never dealt with you or even spoke to you. But if i someone else and read this thread, i would avoid you like the plague.

Now that changeman set I wouldn't rate anything past a 8/10, it is a VCD dump set. You overrated that set and lied, especially when I own that set and I know at least 10 others on this board has it.

70 - 80% of the tokus, sentai, ultraman and KR sets that is floating around comes from VCD dumps.

I've been aware mostly all of them for a few years now, you just go to ebay and get it their. very simple to obtain and alot of people overrate them and half the times don't know the source.

Most I dealt with offering the shows don't even know the real source, mainly as half the time they don't check or just don't know so they lie.

The magiranger disc you have comes from the HK DVd's, All the HK's are direct to DVD's. Basically means they are recorded from the TV straight onto a DVD recorder, which gives a 9.5/10 quality nothing more.

sometimes a 9/10 depending on the type of dvd recorder they use, as no one here knows which dvd recorder they have used. True they may not always be perfect, but thats the subs that translate from jap - chinese - english. Not easy to do and can cause mistakes.

The most common is KR hibiki HK, they call it KR blade hibiki on the titiles. But the quality is watchable and 2nd best to retail. I can live with the spelling mistakes of subs, so long as i can enjoy it.

I wouldn't keep buying them if i thought they was utter crap, thats beacuse i respect them as set creators. they want to make money to cover their cost, then let them.

I don't mind spending the money if it keeps getting made, bootleggers or not. At least I get to watch the shows at a decent quality and not have them at all.

I myself do direct to dvd's and know how much work goes into making a set, creating a menu, editing, doing cases, recording (they record at 7.30am in the morning every week).

But thats not the discussion, i just wanted to put that in as I am a set creator myself. I do agree that no set is prefect, their are flaws. But what matters is they took their time and money to help us fans to watch the shows.

xforgivemex if you want a better quality guide to follow by, then i will make a new post which you can follow. The guide itself was done by a well respected member and its what i use for the basis of my sets.

Screenshots, well using 3 programs just to get 1 screenshot shows you are doing it wrong. You want a good program then use powerdvd 5 or 6, that is what i use and it will give you a decent screenshot.

Most probably what you have done is done the settings wrong when capturing, but don't bite someones head off for it. Ask someone what else to use.

You never get anywhere in the world unless you ask.

No, they weren't official in the slightest, just copies they owned or copies of copies that had been circulating until a rerun. It was mostly the shows that never had an official release -- the most recent I saw was someone selling Spielban from the '02 Toei Channel run, until the official DVDs were released and they weren't needed. But I do think they've been cracking down on bootlegs, because I haven't seen any auctions for them since around then.

EDIT: Bah, I don't really want to go further into this, because it will just go in circles and/or kick off a right mess.

Because to encode and upload just takes some button clicks here and there. To create a typeset or time (as I and several of my friends have done) takes hours of very tedious work in which you can't walk away from, get lunch, take a nap, etc...come back and its done. (Something the encoder and uploaders/seeders of my sub group do.) Still, to sell something you got for free is wrong. I'm a pirate--always have been, always will be, but I've never sold something that I never bought in the first place. In fact, in general I don't sell ****. Its mine, I'm too lazy to make copies, and I always think I'm going to rewatch whatever I bought--even if I never do.

You shouldn't say something unless you think about everything involved in saying it.

15k in an hour = 54MB download, give or take.

4.8k in an hour (the BEST 56k can do) = 17MB downloaded.

3k in an hour (what 56k NORMALLY does) = 10.8MB downloaded

Until you've walked a mile in someone's shoes.....;) I'm not saying those on ISDN or DSL/Cable have a right to bitch/whine/moan, but the people still peddling along at a speed that doesn't even break the double-digit barrier sure do. (Fortunately for me, I have Streamload.)

I saw that in an email. What the hell is the point of piracy if you have to WORK to get it?

You know, looking around at people, and at sites....I wonder how much longer piracy will stay as "mainstream" as it is (and its not mainstream at all right now). With uploaders getting tired of uploading for people who are just going to sell their stuff, with connections being capped more and more, and with there being way too many rules and too much work involved to download stuff (T-N's not the first place, its just the newest place), its starting to become easier to just BUY stuff. When that happens....a lot of this work (except fansubbing, and especially of Toku, that will NEVER die because Toei/Toho/whoever else will NEVER bring Toku to other countries so there will ALWAYS be a need for it) will just....stop. Of course, piracy will always exist in some form, but....what form, is the question.

Oh, and let's try this edit test.

Edit: Attempt 1.

Edit 2: Attempt 1 worked. You know what it is? If you edit your post within about five minutes of posting it, the edits won't show.

Edit 3: I still think you're lying though. ;)
