Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac

For some Latin American countries, like Colombia, Saint Seiya ran before DBZ and the original Dragon Ball, so it was for many, myself included, their very first experience with anime. It has pretty much a sacred status over there.

I have a friend from Peru that tells me they actually hold tournaments with the video game over there.

While i liked it, it sucks, that all Gold Saints had to die, while such useless characters, like Silver Saints, survived.

Does the anime touch all that happened in the manga, or is it one of those cases where the manga ends differently than the anime?

It follows the manga pretty close, but it does change some of the minor details, specially at the beginning, and it has one extra arc, which is technically filler, the arc is really, really good.

The last arc of the manga, however, was animated several years later, in the 2000s, and it follows the manga even more closely.

the original anime had too many changes that bugged me
the worse being the Steel Saints. those were a really really bad addition
but it is a good anime on its own.

Ohko was a great addition by the anime though. Even Kurumada, the manga's author, like the character so much he created one, technically two, in the manga based on him.

Man, the Steel Saints were so awful. I think that was the first time I realized that things could be different between a manga and an anime. They stuck out like sore thumbs in every scene they appeared in and the main characters always went from talking about how awesome they were (when they were on camera) to forgetting they existed (when they weren't).

I'd love to see a Brotherhood/new HxH take on Saint Seiya that sped up the pacing and did the whole set of arcs in a consistent modern style. Losing Furuya Tohru would be sad, but it would be better than going from hyper-extended 80s TV high-budget animation of the Gold Saint arc to the hyper-compressed crap-budget TV animation for Poseidon to the awkward early 2000s OAV digital animation for Hades just to get the whole plot. (Haven't seen any of the new stuff, though. How is it?)

Lost Canvas is good enough, if you're willing to pass that it's using a more shojou-manga style (LC's author usually works in shojou). Personally, I still think that the first half of the Hades chapters has the best animation, especially on how detailed and imposing the cloths appeared, my second favorite would be the animation used for the 3rd and 4th movies.
