Richard Pryor is dead at 65

Way harsh dude

No, I seriously did!

I didn't find him funny though. Sucks he died, but he was basically responsible for all this "black vs. white" humor which is basically all the same joke. Like he couldn't be funny without constantly pointing out that he was black.

RIP old man....-__-

I loved his "black vs white" humor. It broke down barriers at the time and put up all this stuff that the races felt so damn uncomfortable about back then..... and showed how stupid it was and that we could just laugh at it.

He was a major influence on other black comedians and frelling comedy in general.

If you thought that then you pretty much missed the entire point of his jokes, and I think its sort of odd that I had two CDs with him doing shows without him mentioning he was black once, so...

Anyways, RIP dude. I remember the last time I saw something about Pryor on TV it was a special on Comedy Central named "Richard Pryor: I'm not dead yet, motherfucker!" Irony. The universe feeds on it, seriously.

I don't mean to disrespect the guy, I just mean that the racial comedy gets old after a while, just like the way every one of Dat Phan's jokes is about being Asian, just like Margaret Cho's old stuff before she just got downright raunchy.

Still, 65 is middle-age.

Racial comedy does get old, but all of his stuff wasn't about that. I remember once he had a whole bit about a wino meeting Dracula. It was totally hilarious. *wishes his computer hadn't crashed and he hadn't lost all his Richard Pryor stuff* :bawling:

And Dat Phan's stuff is still sort of funny, while white vs. black jokes have been pretty much milked dry now.

Yeah, I guess considering his time it was still relatively new so it hadn't had time to just completely run its course like it has nowadays.

As for Dat Phan, he is all about the Asian jokes, but I still think he's pretty funny at times, like when he made fun of the way his mom gives directions.

"Ova der, by da twee!"

One of my favorite memories was after he had set himself on fire....he did a show, and actually made fun of himself for doing that. Funny ****.
