Revisiting the Humor in "The Animaniacs": Does It Still Hold Up?

I recently decided to revisit "The Animaniacs," and wow, the humor still hits different in today's context! From the satirical takes on current events to the clever wordplay and cultural references, it's a ride down memory lane. The mix of slapstick and smart comedy is something that's rarely found in today's animated shows.

But I can't help but wonder, does anyone else think that some of the humor might not translate well to a new generation? And how do you think it compares to modern animated comedies like "Rick and Morty" or "Big Mouth"?

For those who've rewatched it recently, did you find any jokes that seemed dated or awkward now? Let's hear your thoughts on what makes "The Animaniacs" a classic or if it's time to let it stay in the past!

I totally get where you're coming from with "The Animaniacs." It was such a groundbreaking show, and it really set a high bar for animated comedy with its clever writing and cultural references. I do think some of the humor has aged, especially in the way it tackled certain subjects that were more acceptable back in the day. But that's part of its charm!

As for comparing it to shows like "Rick and Morty" or "Big Mouth," they definitely have a different tone and style. "Rick and Morty" leans heavily into dark humor and existential themes, which can feel pretty distant from the more innocent spirit of "Animaniacs." I personally think both types of humor have their place in the world of animation, but it's interesting to see how different generations interpret and engage with comedy.

What do you think about the way modern shows take on social issues? Do you think "Animaniacs" could adapt successfully if it were rebooted today?
