Remember when Sentai blatantly ripped off others' music?

Funny you're talking about Star Trek music, since Janperson uses regularly a theme that is very similar to the main theme of the Star Trek movie ; and Blue SWAT has also a music that seems to be ripped from "Back to the Future"

Oh man, that Janperson music. I recently watched Daigeki's sub of the film and for a moment wondered who was watching TNG in another room. I also remember Ecogainder having a victory theme the played at the end of each episode that really sounds like a karaoke backing track version of the Gavan theme. :sweat:

What they really need to do is go back to featuring jpop in their shows. Especially SMAP and BigBang.

I think we should also include snippets to refresh our memory of period pieces and for those like my self who might not immediately remember them especially about the Daiinjyyu mentioning.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But yeah, once you see how much John Williams ripped off composers like Holst, you see that a lot of composers do.

As for classical music, I have noticed a lot of Japanese shows that use it. Usually they pay royalties to to whom performed it. A lot of artists, non japanese and mainly neo-classical guitarist use melodies or sequences from composers.

Ripped off is so 80s. Let's say homage, lol.

No; the Nejiranger's intro music is Liszt's Totentanz, which uses the Dies Irae theme used a lot in plenty of classical music pieces (a good examplez being Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique.

Oh, and episode 41 of Changeman uses the "Trauermarch" from Mahler's 5th symphony itself. Oh, and Dairanger uses the theme of the second movment of that symphony for Daijinryuu.

Speaking of Holst, Liveman uses a lot a rip off of the "the planets" 's first movement "Mars, bringer of War" as its main attack theme (the theme itself is used in Jetman during the fight during Semimaru and during Guilel's first attack in Megaranger).

One of Hurricanger's epic themes is a blatant rip off of the fourth movement of Dvorak's "New world symphony" (the second movement of the symphony itself is used in the final episode of Kakuranger after Daimaoh's defeat).

oh, and Liveman's "enlarging monster" music is a rip off of Mussorgsky's "pictures of an exposition" (second to last picture).

Sentai isn't alone in that. I'm pretty sure there was a battle in the Operation Overdrive episode "Ronny on Empty" where ACDC's "Back in Black" was playing in the background.

Daigeki fansubs, who usually create Portuguese language subtitles for toku shows. However they subbed the movies for Jiban, Janperson and Blue SWAT with two subtitle tracks - the default subtitles are Portuguese but you can switch the video to a secondary subtitle track which is in English. For the Blue SWAT film they labelled it as a joint with Hikari Senshi but I don't know how they came about the English translations for the other two. I don't speak Japanese so I couldn't tell you how accurate they were other than saying that the dialogue seemed to fit what was happening on screen, and that they were perfectly sensible sentences rather than the terrible grammar and spelling you'd get with HK subs.

AFAIK none of their other projects are dual-language, and these three Metal Hero "movies" are only about 25 mins each (I suspect Blue SWAT's film is actually the action scenes of two episodes edited together; the other two could just be letterboxed episodes FAIK). They really do leave you wishing someone would sub some more Metal Hero into English though 'cause they're pretty awesome!

I've seen the Janperson and Jiban films and I am 100% certain they were made for movie theaters. Toei got out of the practice of making letterboxed episodes sometime in the early 1980s (although it's weird that Blue SWAT got that treatment. Maybe there were production issues?). As far as I can tell, the subtitles in Daigeki's fansubs were spot-on and I totally agree that there needs to be more love for Metal Heroes since both movies (especially Jiban's) are a whole lot of fun.

Williams ripped off Holst, Sentai ripped off Holst. Really, with the way western music is it's going to happen, more so than others. It doesn't bother me because even though they have similarities they are different tunes.
