All three instalments of the new Red Dwarf mini-series have now aired

Lister went through character growth that takes him out of a slump and restores his confidence in himself, it's a tour de force for actor Craig Charles as his personal and fictional lives come head-to-head.

There's still a place for the humour too

I loved Lister ironing his sneezes, Rimmer reading Carpet samplers, Kryten's explanation for why DVDs will eventually go out of fashion, prompting a return to using videotapes, Rimmer's revenge on his female counterpart and his criticism of being labled "neurotic", the confirmation that seasons nine and ten happened off-screen, and Lister playing God with the typewriter and putting the crew through hell

A mix of Blade Runner theatrics and good grounded comedy that a fan of any television genre can have a smirk at, this was a welcome, solid return for a comedy series all too frequently taken for granted by the BBC. DAVE should commision a full new series sooner or later.[/hide]

Some people have been giving the show poor reviews. But I think it's funny as hell!! I'll hopefully be watching the third episode tonight.

Well those people are the ones that never thought the series was worth a damn after Rob Grant left and Doug stayed on and don't really want to consider any version of RD except the ones they worked on together....and some others simply didnt "get" the story or simply wanted something that was never going to live up to their expectations. They should have known Doug's style hasnt changed and never will.

Doug's vision for the series is less of a comedy, and more of a drama. I actually liked season seven a great deal because the characters began to grow a little and mature without relying on the snarky adolescent humour Grant constantly gave 'em. Season eight isnt a favourate of mine mainly because the focus wasnt on the regular cast that much, they had to share screen time with the ressurected crew. Fortunatly, "Back to Earth" remedied that and it's back the usual core group of characters. The humour is more laid back and not so direct, and can be enjoyed just as well as the comedy being flat out spoon-fed

I loved it! I was soo stoked when I first found out this was happening. Once a smeghead, always a smeghead. It's quite funny because this is one of my favorite british shows, and I came across it accidently. I used to record episodes of "Flying Circus" on BBC America, and I would set the recording to end a bit after the show. Well, Red Dwarf just happened to air right after, and I started watching, and I laughed my ass off. I loved it, and I sought out Series I-IV on VHS. I do think near one point, I had the entire series on VHS. I then bought them on DVD.

But getting back, these specials were great! And while I missed the laugh track, it didn't affect my view on the show at all.

Pretty unbelieveably awful I'm afraid. Although scarily was pretty much a rehash of the League of Gentlemen movie which was just as bad.

It did make me quite sad to watch it...

This did the LOGA story absolutely right and tied it into classic RD mythology to boot. A great story, nothing "depressing" about it. People sometimes take television way too seriously, just enjoy the bloody thing.

I love how you seem to find any reason to think the complete opposite of the masses :laugh:
