What do you think are the odds the PS2 will take a price cut in the next six months, if not by the end of the year? We all know that the PS3 and PSP are total $%&* for sales, so I'm thinking Sony may not want to lose edge from it's ONE profitable system. On the other hand it's been what, almost 8 years since the PS2 was launched? That's a pretty lengthy life span for a console; though it's not like it's never taken a price cut.

I just ask because I've recently lost access to my younger brother's, and it's high time my buy my friggin own ^_^ Let me know your thoughts!

I don't see it happening. With the PS3 and the PSP getting the **** kicked outta 'em, I think Sony will hold on to its final edge for as long as possible.

The Odds?

Well I guess there will definately still be people playing with PS2 systems, even like 5 years after the PS3's been around (heck, some people even still play with their PS1's). PS3 being a High Definition biased system, not everybody's gonna give a crap about High Definition as people will still be using normal definition TV, and 2D games are still popular today.

PlayStation 2 has got like millions of games at it's disposal, not only the overrated Grand Theft Auto crap, but also it has some really interesting but underrated games that nobody's heard of, (Zone of the Enders anyone? Nobody heard of Oni? Klonoa?), it's got lots of Winnie the Pooh and other cartoon based games that the little tykes are gonna enjoy, the endless tie-ins of Football, WWF, Movies, TV Shows, Candy (yes, Candy), and other stuff that keep comming and comming in should keep the PS2 around for a while. PS2 along with XBox and GameCube are overloaded with 2D games, Marvel VS Capcom, Capcom VS SNK, Alien Hominid, Disgaea, the list goes on, and I can't see why a developer would want to move onto the PS3 to make games that would look equally as good on the PS2, add all this with the millions of PS1 games around, and you've got like millions and billions and zillions and kajillions and brazillions and.. (you get the idea.

So I guess the PS2 will still live long, even though I would've preferred it to be the Dreamcast.

As for the Wii, well not everybody's gonna like it's control style of moving Mario and other characters by waving a remote about, some some people might want to go back to the old fashioned control pad.

I dout there will be a pricecut anytime soon for sony. As of late, to compensate for a lower price, they tack on extras to make up the price. If I where sony right now, i'd say do the cut now and fire everyone in PR and anyone that says "we'll give anyone 1,200 bucks for finding a PS3".

Now that's the kind of thinking I like to hear! ^_^ Though I did rather expect others to come to the conclusion I did - no price cut will happen while Sony has nothing else to turn a buck in the gaming market. $129 is really quite reasonable, but I thought I'd throw the question out there anyway...

well, your right, consitering the Gamecube can be found for praticaly nothing and the old XBox models are going that same route, but im sure that their tactics to get people with how they are handling the PS3 and the PSP will also affect the PS2. Someway, somehow, so again, not bloody likely if they keep up like this.
