How many of you got into tokusatsu from NOT watching Mighty Morphin power rangers?

Cause i know its rare now a days.

I'm one of the few. I saw reruns of ULTRAMAN before saban put out Mighty Morphin...

so... who else is with me?

My family being Japanese, and living in the States, my relatives would send us a lot of taped shows of not only anime, but our Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and Super Sentai stuff. When we were in Japan, my mother would buy the videos that have Ultraman or Kamen Rider Bios, and some Super Sentai volumes. And, we still have those on our video shelf today (my mom can't bear to throw them away).

When Power Rangers came out... I knew in my heart, that it was my beloved Zyuranger, but I it was the only thing I could watch that was close to it. Though, I also remember seeing Ultraman Great, but I couldn't catch because I didn't know what time it aired. :shakefist

I saw Power Rangers when it was airing but I discovered toku seperately, not from tracking down PR's source. Just a big coincidence, really.

I had already seen plenty of Ultraman & Kamen Rider before Power Rangers. I had seen a little Sentai too, although not any of the ones Power Rangers used footage from. But I knew it was from a Sentai show back then.

I've been watching this stuff for about as far back as I can recall, honestly. I still remember watching an episode of Ultraseven with my dad and both of us thinking it was the coolest thing ever, despite not having a clue what was being said. Then when it was aired on TNT in English, we were like "Oh, so that's what was going on." :laugh:

First toku I watched was Ultraman Taro before MMPR was around, that count?

I liked Godzilla before MMPR but MMPR did make me realize there was more than just giant kaiju.

Godzilla here. And there are lots of people who get into it through kaiju, so I wouldn't call them "rare cases".

I was watching Spectreman and Godzilla and Gamera movies back in the 80, so I was a fan.


but to be honest PR kinda got me back into it
