PR Fans: Stupid?, Blind, or both?

Forever Knight

HOW in the living hell can't some fans tell the difference between Sentai footage and original PR footage?. I could tell from episode 1.

I don't get it.

Some people.....don't watch Sentai or even know what it is?

I didn't know about Sentai in 1993 yet I could tell the difference in footage. Back then I called it "Battle Footage" because of the rock quary and explosions.

By the time PR Turbo came around it was almost IMPOSSIBLE to not see that the other footage was from Nihon.

No point of reference for some.

I could tell because I knew of Japanese stuff.. how it's shot, its style, and had even seen some Dynaman once upon a time.

People who haven't been exposed to any of it and don't really care.. they'd have no idea where to begin on thinking it was anything less than American made.... and stupid, to muggle eyes.

On the rare occasion that I watch PR in the living room, while my dad, mom, and sister are in there with me, I'll point out the Sentai footage like it was nothing. It's really not that hard to spot if you just watch closely. But I can understand it now these days, there is so much new American footage, and if you haven't seen the Sentai equivalent, it's kind of hard.

I feel your pain.

I've seen Zyuranger a year before Power Rangers surfaced. I got some friends back in NY into it! (I moved to VA before Christmas of 92; I lived in VA Beach for one year, and then moved to Richmond after that.) And many of us were also familiar with Dynaman.

It goes without saying that I can easily tell the original footage from the US footage, because the original was done on film, whereas the US footage was done on video converted to 24 FPS. It's still pretty shabby.

I couldn't tell because I was four years old. Is that a good excuse?

But you're right, it's pretty easy to tell. The MMPR costumes were pretty crappy reproductions of the Zyu costumes (especially the Green Ranger's puffy shield). Also bullet time = PR, low camera angles = PR, and slightly grainier footage = Sentai (At least that's what I noticed most watching Dino Thunder.).

Even before i was into sentai, it always puzzled me

and ofcourse obviously with MM's dumba$$ neck ruffles:rolleyes2::laugh:

but even after that, when i was little i noticed the differences, they are:

the sentai suits look shiny and well fit, and power rangers look really pale and

bland.

You know I once told a classmate at my old school about this, and he said he didn't believe me. Oh well, it's his lost.
