Power Rangers SPD Japanese Dub

Wasn't Time Force the last Japanese Dub? Why not start at Ninja Storm?

Not quite. Suprisingly the history of Japanese dubs of Power Rangers is a bit spotty at places. For example, there were actually two Japanese dubs for MMPR: one made for TV-Asahi and one for "Super Channel", which specializes in dubs of popular "foreign" media. While I'm not sure which ended where, nor as to why, the last ever, Japanese dubbed episode of MMPR was "The Wedding Part III", and it never continued past that into third season material, excluding the Movie.

It was then picked up again for Turbo by "Super Channel", skipping Zeo for some odd reason, possibly due to semi-recent controversy with Ohranger or Carranger's large success, and eventually winded down for Lightspeed Rescue during 2003. In particular, this one had been cut down to half of it's episodes (with quite a large chunk omitted from the run), either due to budgetary reasons, company conflicts (it was shortly after the switch from Saban to Disney, if that makes any difference) or just due to lack of interest in the endeavour.

Other than the odd magazine articles and news reports, the Power Rangers section in the recent Encyclopaedias, and the cameo of the SPD Battilizer in "Magiranger Vs. Dekaranger", nothing of a legitimate dub of the show has been made since. Which is why this news is so curious, as it seems they have renewed interest in this kind of production, at least for one season.

One last piece of news for those interested, from some other postings of the press release around the net, there are frequent mentions that tentative dates for the DVD sets are November 21, 2011 for "Box 1" and January 21, 2012 for "Box 2". Take these with a grain of salt for now, but it does seem that Toei has plans to market this as best they can. Not to mention that I don't recall if SPD ever did have a complete DVD run of the season or not when it was "airing".

A DVD Boxset is already inevitable since they are releasing the Hero Club DVD in August

Hero Club DVD release = Eventual DVD release

Interesting news. The fact they're getting the Dekaranger actors to dub makes it more interesting. Ban doing Jack should be good. I too wonder about the Dekas' reaction to the Sam-light.

I can vouch for the awesomeness of these videos. The footage of the henshined actors feels like its a Sentai series. :castlerock:
