Over-Time vs Tv-Nihon: Which one do you prefer?

They are the youths who set sail across the information superhighway in pursuit of adventure and glory!

Raising their flags against the TV-Nihon fansub empire, the brilliant men and women who take pride in being called pirates!

They are...

SUPER FAST SUBBERS, OVER-TIME!

Reading this while listening to the instrumental Gokaiger op = epic

(But in all seriousness I enjoy the Over-Time subs more -they're more professional, can be shared with friends without the honorifics and mis-translations / non-translations removing them from the storytelling. They also don't jump around the screen and dance and flash like I have the attention span of a goldfish)
I remember a time when people liked the dancing and the flashing.

The blame for this lies pretty much entirely at my door (Heat hates Go-On and refuses to touch the Go-On stuff) and the feedback I've been getting is mostly negative on that front, so it's probably not something I'll do in future but... I don't know. I can't really easily describe it, but I guess the Go-Onger villain names don't feel like names, they just feel like poorly disguised puns. Like... I dunno, Tendou Souji is a pretty obvious one in terms of "LOOK I HAVE A MEANING", but at the same time it kind of feels like a valid name, you know?

I just can't look at Babacheed where his name literally means "poop poopyhead" and take that seriously as a name. I dunno. There's kind of a line in the sand that Go-On steps over and goes "LOOK GUYS, WE'RE MAKING TERRIBLE PUNS!" and jumps up and down calling your attention to it constantly. Therein lies the boundary, purely IMO.

I've never really thought of it like this, actually, but I completely understand where you're coming from. Go-On really could get on my nerves with the lame puns...

Right now I get Overtime first, then later I'll get TV-Nihon because I like AVI more than MKR files. I like both but I really appreciate the fact that Overtime can get their sub out about a day or two after the Raw comes out.

I think that was the point though There suppose to have stupid names.

Exactly, yes. Hence my logic in translating them: the Japanese names do not sound sufficiently stupid to an English viewer because you can't see the utter laziness (deliberate laziness, mind) that has gone into trying to hide their puns.

It really is a thing of beauty.

Quiet, you. Next you'll be telling me that Shinkenger is full of doofy puns and not at all a Serious Bzness show.
