The Five Emperors:
Long ago, the Island was a haven for the hanyou population that lived there from being preyed on by the demon tribes. However, every 50 years or so, the barrier that kept the island hidden from oridinary space and time would break down, allowing demons from the mainland to attack. The Five Emperors were among these demons, the leaders of all Tribes. They caused enormous bloodshed and in the end gained control over the island. However, despite their apparent victory, a Priestess succeeded in sealing their powers, forcing them to become prisoners of the island and stripping of of their full power.
Unfortunately though, the Five Emperors discovered that by sacrificing a human maiden to a sacred cauldron on the island, they could regain a small portion of their power each time and exist. To carry this out, they marked several hanyou children on the island and human maidens outside with their crimson scar to "seal" their fate.
