From what I understand, the medals use low power radio waves to function. The scanner sends a radio wave that powers the medal (thus, why the medals need no batteries), and it sends back a signal to let the scanner know which medal it is. The problem that could arise is the paint can possibly block the transmission of the radio waves. And in the case that I want to use a chrome paint, possibly interfere with the signal, but I suppose that would depend on the type of paint I use. Especially if they use a different plastic on the DX versions than on the Candy or Capsule medals. And there is the fear of the chrome paint possibly coming in contact with the circuitry, and may short it when the scanner scans (powers) it.
It is looking like the obvious answer is, "try it".
who says the paint will get on the chip? all you're doing is painting the outside. not the inside. plus you're letting the paint dry out so it won't rub off or leak

I just took one apart. The circuit board is resting right on the front side plastic, thus, if I spray paint the piece with a metallic paint, it would be directly in contact with the board.
Need to get a cheap medal just to be on the safe side .

that's what i said earlier. do what that guy did in that video posted above. take the chip out and then spray paint. let it dry, put chip back in, screw it back up, done good game.
btw, i would not suggest doing it on your DX core medals. maybe on your cell medals, gashapon, and candy toy medals.
Yes, I know you can take the chip out. I am just afraid of the tracers coming into contact with a conductive material on the back of it, where it rests on the plastic piece. Though, I can easily circumvent this with painting a primer on top of the chrome. I don't know why I didn't think of that before.
And, yeah, I need to get a non-DX medal. DX is all I have right now.
Cant believe i missed the Medal Holder on CSToys last night. I was on the site, saw the listing and for some reason it didnt even register in my mind that it was for sale until about 20 minutes later.
