Once you go Blu you don't go back (Blu-ray/HD Appreciation)

I've been buying Blu for about a year now. Haven't double-dipped on any of my old DVDs yet.

For the people complaining about the high prices all I have to say is don't believe the hype. Unless you're importing, Blu-rays ususally never go for $30. I think the single most expensive American BD I bought was the Criterion Chunking Express for about $27. (The most expensive BDs I imported were probably Red Cliff I and II which were damn near $34 each, but totally worth the price :D).

Most new release BDs will probably run aroun $22-24 (which if IIRC was about the price of a new release DVD back at its height.) Catalogue titles can usually be bought for around $15, while bigger-name catalogue titles like Braveheart will go for around $20. Prices are definitely fair IMO.

I'm not sure where you live but where I am Blu-rays are $30 bucks a pop. Occasionally you'll see a $20 one but the movie is usually ten years old or older and that's kinda rare

Just buy online, Best Buy and other electronic stores will always have their BD around MSRP. You'll ususally find the best prices on Amazon. Theres also a lot of weekly deals that make the prices even better. You just have to look around.

I mean, I just bought a brand new Snow White Diamond Edition on BD for only $10 on Amazon after using a coupon code they offered.

*edit* I just received my latest order right now, Snow White and The Searchers. Cost me a total of $17.99 with free shipping.

Yeah it looks like they're doing a big online sale on Best Buy, I picked up Pinocchio from them last week for $9.99. But looking through these prices, some of the sale items are still more expensive than Amazons regular prices. :loltongue:

There are other issues than the prices of the discs alone, namely that it requires a whole 'nother player and those don't exactly run cheap. Some of you guys might be made out of money, but I don't want to throw away any more money than I have to buying movies, considering how many I watch. Blu-Ray is good, but I don't think it's good enough to make DVD look any worse. If it ain't broke...
