I mean I know that some fans are purist but even this is unacceptable!

I can understand why they wanted to change some parts such as the mass destruction in NY, since it'll hit too close to home after 9/11

but there are a lot of parts in watchmen that can be used to make an incredible movie

this isn't the watchmen movie

this is the "Movie formerly known as watchmen."

This draft was from 1987, so it's just a little pre-9/11, but even reading the lowlights, as they are called was shockingly bad.
