Ya know what? Ever since I laid my eyes upon the spell book included in Studio Gibli’s Ni no Kuni for the Nintendo DS, I prayed that PS3 owners would be able to lay their hands upon that beautiful work of art when the PS3 version releases. Well, it looks like I’ve got a guardian angel looking after my prayers because Kotaku has confirmed, with screenshots nonetheless, that the PS3 version will be getting the enormous book.
The purpose of the DS’s version of the book was to provide players with a comprehensive guide to all the spells as well as what to draw on the touchscreen to execute them. With the PS3 version, you’ll be choosing the spells on-screen. Kotaku didn’t go into much detail about the contents of the book itself, but from what I can gather, the book is a guide/manual.
I’m quite awestruck that Studio Gibli cared enough about their fanbase to include something that likely costs a lot of money to produce, as the manual of the game. Game developers take note, either flesh out your manuals or stop skimping on the content of your games. I for one, will be picking up this title when it releases in the US. Hopefully the book gets localized even if, for some reason, it’s as a standalone product.
Ni No Kuni is out now in Japan and will be releasing early 2012 in America. Ni No Kuni was developed by both Level-5 (Dark Cloud 1 and 2, and White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2) and Studio Gibli (Spirited Away, Castle In The Sky, and my favorite Princess Mononoke).
