Next Gen Disk Poll

Sony always tries to push it's products by bundling them. Same thing with the PSP and UMD (we all know how that turned out).
A friend of mine has a Japanese Viao desktop and she can't even buy a keyboard from another brand because it won't work ... basically, she's stuck with Sony.

The way I see it, a console should be aimed at gaming, and I'll buy a HDDVD or BR player seperately for my viewing needs (same way I did with my DVD's)

HD DVD

HD DVD will trounce Blu-Ray if either format wins. Basically Sony has alienated consumers by:

1. Going sue-happy and pissing off consumers as a member of the RIAA.
2. Overpricing the PS3 in addition to their crappy line of consumer electronics making them the Dell of A/V products... (JVC or bust now)
3. Having a track record for crappy formats that have all been touted as the next big thing and actually been the next 8-track tape formats.

Blu-Ray may be bigger, but it's not better. BDs are DRMed, poor quality, the reason for this format war, and by the time we need 50GB of storage space on an optical disc for video, we'll have 3TB HVDs and UHDV TVs. (Wikipedia/google those terms.) I'll even go as far as to say that BD stands for Betamax DVD!

HD DVD on the other hand is nimble in comparison, suits its job perfectly, and has DRM, but no stupid region locking.

Although I'm voting for HD DVD, I'm not buying either format until one wins.

In truth, had the film inudstry thought for a moment they could have avoided this. HD DVDs coulds have been made non-recordable (think LaserDisc) and only professionally pressed. Blu-Ray discs could be designed to be recordable for computers and set-top recorders only, but instead these two are gonna go head to head. It's stupid, stupid, stupid! :170:
