New Adventures Of He-Man On DVD

But then, Power Rangers went into space, noone complains about that or the changes they've went through over the seasons have they? So what makes He-Man such a heated target when he does the exact same thing?

With Power Rangers, the show already had it's roots in space with Rita and Zordon being intergalatic entities, a robot sidekick, and monsters falling down from the moon on a daily basis. It wouldn't be too unbelieveable to set a season in space. Although I don't recall them actually being in space or on other planets all that often.

From what I've seen of He-man it's different. It's set entirely on a different planet, sure, but there was never any indications of intergalactic travel. It's more of a swords and sorcery vibe.

I'm curious, does anyone here remember Josie and the Pussycats? I've always wondered how viewers of that series felt when they went into space. I thought it was rather lame (which isn't saying much about how lame the show was to begin with), but I guess there is this immediate revoltion to shows that involve going into space or involving space beings as a last resort. A desperate final grasp at ratings. I know everyone knows about the mess that was The Flintstones and that green martian.

I've actually given actual constructive reasons as to why it's worth watching.

That's because you religiously watched all the episodes. I havent. I might have seen 3-4 episodes at best and I only remember one of them because I recently found that episode on a tape. You can't expect me or anyone to give you proper reasons for dissaproval.

It's "stupid" because the mere idea of He-man in space (and all the new designs) is laughable. (The episode I saw had Skeletor and his company fly into some space cloud. There's some mutiny that goes down on the ship. Some space leader is tired of following skeletor and does a mutiny or some crap. I dont remember.)

Even if I had all the episodes, I'm not about to study them and procede to write up an essay on why it was bad. I just didnt like the concept of the show.

But Im not saying you're wrong. I'm sure there's something about the show that makes you love it.

Im not speaking as one of those "classic" fans either. I liked the original cartoon as a kid but I barely remember it now and probably wouldnt even like it.

Speaking for myself, I loved Josie and the Pussycats In Outer Space because it still had all the elements I liked about the show. I never really thought the whole outer space thing hurt it at all.

I did'nt post this thread for people to bash it, but I knew in advance this would be the reaction, this place is all well and good for "broad, diverse discussion", but the instant I put up a show I love that is coming out on DVD, I have to hold my fingers in my ears to duck the endless tidal wave of homphobic comments and the sheer pig-headed hypocrisy of format-tweeking haters.

The mere idea of Power Rangers in space on surfboards is laughable, oh, wait, that worked. Not attacking you here, but this is in response to the defenses for why IS gets a free pass

Yeah, it's the fact I don't care at all for the changes when I've been used to them before, if the changes don't affect the quality of writing and animation, then I give it a chance. This was the exact same case with Batman Beyond, which used very little of the Batman: TAS rouges gallery, and it turned out to be tremendous.

Secondly, it's NOT the series fault that He-Man and Skeletor had for the most part new allies, that was Mattel's toyline dictating what had to be in there, blame them for the changes.

You probably would, He-Man's writing is it's strongest aspect, with contributions from JMS and Paul Dini

Supernovametalstar, NA is set in the same continuity as the original, it's all explained in the first episode why he's asked to come to the future, the series made it seem that this was what he was being groomed for on Eternia, for He-Man to become more than just a guardian of one planet's people, but a true "Master of the Universe", Skeletor, his nemesis, in true ying to yang fashion, also ascends to this form of universal destiny.

Fayt made a good point above, he enjoyed "Josie and The Pussycats In Outer Space" because everything from the original series was maintained, just that backdrop had changed. All the elements were still there,m Adam changed into He-Man, The Sorceress appeared to him for advise, Skeletor was there, and still over the top. The first episode of NA (and others) have apperances from Teela, King Randor, Castle Greyskull, and the Queen. Everything is there.

In fact, had the series returned for a second season, they would have RETURNED to Eternia, and we would have seen the reemergence of Man-At-Arms and others, but the toyline bombed for a dosen reasons.

I think I have one of the toys. I might still have the power sword. It's either from this series, or another He-Man series...

This is the one

I've got most of the eps on tape and I'll definitely buy the DVD's when I have the money as I always thought this series was a lot better than the original...

Now if only someone could bring out a Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors DVD set, I could be truly happy...
