My really (and serious) first thought about Super Sentai

I was 9 years old (2006) when I watch Gaoranger vs Super Sentai (my first Sentai video) by accident. And I thought at first that Super Sentai must be a parody or rip-off of Power Rangers. When I look up about Super Sentai website. I immediate laugh at them because the way they did to Doggie Kruger's head. It look like a puppet. But I realize that Super Sentai is not a rip off or parody. Super Sentai was actually a source for Power Rangers idea.

What is your first thought about Super Sentai?

Guys if you aren't going to do anything to contribute to his topics you could try y'know? Not posting in them?

No body is forcing you to participate or even reading them.

I remember seeing Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai back in 2002 as well. I had no idea what was going on or what it was. In 2004, I found about Super Sentai on the wikipedia when I was looking up info on Dino Thunder. Finally years later, I started to watch Gokaiger and Zyuranger.

When I first read about Sentai on the internet in the late 90's-early 00's, I thought Sentai was dark and edgy, and Power Rangers was the cheesy, dumbed-down version for kids.

Years later, I finally watch a Sentai (like Zyuranger and Dairanger) and realize how wrong I was, and that they're just as cheesy as their PR counterpart.

Well, my very first Sentai video was I think Hurricaneger vs. Gaoranger, but I actually saw a clip of Magiranger vs. Dekaranger before that. I didn't knew much about Sentai back in 2004, but it wasn't until I looked at a website that listed all of the Sentais and which ones were later adapted into different seasons of Power Rangers. Then, when I found out that the Sentais had most of the team-ups that were skipped by Saban and Disney from 1996-2006, I figured that most of the actors in the US couldn't be there because the companies couldn't afford to have some of them return to reprise their roles for full team-ups. And yeah, I sort of figured out that the Sentais were the original source of the Power Rangers the minute I started watching Magiranger and Dekaranger.

And on a serious thought, I believed that the Super Sentai was more dark and serious unlike Power Rangers, but when I saw Zyuranger, and Carranger, I was dead wrong. It turned there were a few Sentai series that had a lighter and darker tone within their shows and Power Rangers tried to turn the "Lighter" ones into darker seasons, but some of them, with the exception of MMPR S1, in Space, Dino Thunder and RPM, became absolute failures.

For me, my first Sentai video that I saw was the Boukenger opening. To sums things up, I loved the theme song and the footage. Action packed. I never had any feeling of Super Sentai being a ripoff of Power Rangers or vice versa. Don't know why everybody thinks that. I see them as two different shows and franchises.

@raden238:

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first read about Sentai. I didn't think of it as some "rip-off" of Power Rangers as some people assumed that it was. I saw it as two entirely different franchises, just that one franchise is more appealing for not only children, but also for adults.
