More Sega Games Added To Nintendo Switch Online

One of the more neglected corners of the Nintendo Switch Online library just received some love…Sega Genesis got three more games today. The most recognizable is the original Streets of Rage, the 1992 brawler that introduced the world to Axel, Adam, and Blaze. Three games would soon follow, the most recent being for modern consoles. Now you can see where all the hype came from… Great two-player action! Axel, Adam, and Blaze—ex-cops, the solution to punk pollution. The city’s a war zone, and they’re going out two at a time to give the gangs a kick in the guts. This is the ultimate in street combat. These city fighters are martial arts maniacs with a battery of 40 individually controllable attacks including jabs, head butts, and overhead kicks. They’re up against a mob of Kung-Fu creeps and axe hurling fiends. On the streets it’s only two of them against hordes of attacking scum. Slam into pipe-wielding weirdos and bash ’em with their own metal. Throw an uppercut or an elbow smash—these goons keep comin’. The other two titles are a bit more obscure….I haven’t heard of ESWAT at all, so I don’t really have anything to say about it. Super […]

I’m really happy Streets of Rage is on the Switch now. I played it a lot with my cousin when we were kids. We didn’t know the moves properly, but we still had fun punching bad guys and using pipes. I think new players should try it. The music is also great, very catchy and cool. I hope they add Streets of Rage 2 next, because that one is even better. It’s smoother, and you get more characters. This is a good step for Sega fans who miss the old days. I’ll probably replay it this weekend with my brother.

Honestly, Super Thunder Blade is not a great choice. It was impressive in the arcade, but on Genesis it looks messy. The frame rate is bad, and it’s hard to control. Sega should focus more on games that actually aged well. There are many good Genesis games that are still fun today. Why not add something like Shinobi III or Ristar? I know not every game can be a hit, but I think the selection here is not balanced.

I already own these games in physical form, but I’m glad they’re on Switch too. It makes it easier to show friends what I grew up with. Streets of Rage is one of the best beat-em-ups ever made. I don’t think ESWAT is amazing, but it has some interesting design. It mixes platforming with shooter gameplay. Not many people played it, so I guess it’s a good time to explore it now. Thunder Blade though… yeah, it’s rough. Still, it’s part of history.

Finally! I’ve been waiting for Sega to add more Genesis titles. This is what keeps me using the expansion pack. Streets of Rage is a must-have. But they really need to go deeper. Where’s Shining Force? Where’s Alien Soldier? There are so many great games still missing. If they want to honor Sega properly, they should bring full collections. I still appreciate this drop, but I hope it’s not the last one.

It’s always interesting to study old games like Streets of Rage. The way they built tension and progression without much story is clever. You can see how limited hardware pushed creativity. Even if Super Thunder Blade doesn’t run well, I understand why it’s there—it shows a moment in time. For developers, it’s good reference material. These old games still teach design lessons. I hope Nintendo keeps adding more, even the strange or forgotten ones.
