[Anime] Mobile Suit Gundam: Universal Century Saga (0079-Victory) Mega-Thread

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

My God this is so fucking good. The battles are beyond incredible.

I'm going to say Unicorn Gundam is now on my favs list.

Unicorn Gundam has officially kicked my ass. I'm pissed we need to wait until May to see the Black Unicorn. Now it's time for F91 and then the final stop of the Universal Century.... Victory Gundam.

But I'll put Unicorn's thoughts on hold right now while I go into F91/Victory since Unicorn is not completed yet.

So assuming that Unicorn's Char is NOT Char Aznable and Amuro doesn't return at all anymore then both of them should have died in the final moments of Char's Counterattack on the Axis Asteroid, no?.

This is correct. Amuro and Char are, for all intensive purposes, dead as ****.

I don't see how anyone could have survived that either way.

Even with Char's 9 lives he was pretty much a goner for that one. I just wish the movie was all out blunt about it and showed them both dieing an honorable death.

Anyone actually have a clip of the final moments of Char and Amuro?.

Some questions and comments

1. Was there any novels which revealed how Char took control of Neo Zeon for the Counterattack movie?.
2. Was there a Unicorn novel which someone here has read which revealed the final 2 parts of the saga?, mainly the whereabouts of Mineva Zabi, Char, Amuro, and who Full Frontal is?.
3. Is there a novel for the point from Unicorn to F91?. I'd like to know the whereabouts of all the characters from the previous saga since everything in F91/Victory is brand spankin' new.

F91 thoughts

Solid film. I continuously see Gundam Wing's tributes throughout the UC. Another example of this being F91's wings which are almost identical to Wing Zero's. Iron Mask was fucking awesome, I would have liked to seen his face. I thought it was damn cool how he was controlling that mobile suit. So it's revealed the Grandfather of that family turned him to a Cyber Newtype.

I am still a bit confused on things from F91.

4. Why was the Crossbone Vanguard trying to take over the other colonies?, was it to form some sort of empire and then take over Earth?. That's the impression I got.

So it was pretty much a colony war rather than the traditional Earth vs. Space theme we've had up to this point which was a rather nice turn.

I was surprised to hear no reference of any of the previous Gundam alumni in F91 except for the words "UC" and "Gundam" when the one girl was explaining how the F91 looked like the old Gundam(s).

5. Will Victory Gundam continue from after F91 with the same characters and storyline of the colony takeover to rule earth or will it be another fresh story in the same universe?.

Unicorn Gundam's based off a series of...I wanna say ten novels, so yeah the story's pretty much finished there. It was one of the reasons people were hyped when it was first announced, it's the first time a Gundam series was adapted from a preexisting idea.

F91 was originally meant to be a TV show but there were production problems along the way, so they pretty much took the scripts they already had and created a movie out of them. All told, they did a decent job with what they had.

Annnd Victory Gundam takes place 30 years after F91 and features a brand new cast. The first few episodes are a little strange because, originally, the Gundam supposedly wasn't introduced during the first couple of episodes, so that should explain any sense of "wtf is going on," during those first few. If I remember correctly, the episodes were aired as 1, 2, 3, and 4, but the proper order is 2, 3, 4, and 1, but because of the way they were edited, it still feels weird to watch it in that second order.

The novel Senkou no Hathaway (Hathaway's Flash) takes place during UC 105 although the story focuses on the version of events portrayed in the Char's Counterattack novel rather than the anime.

Gundam F91 came out in 1991, 4 years before Gundam W's debut.

The Ronah family wanted to establish a nation dedicated to the principles of aristocracy and noblesse oblige by taking over the colonies of the Frontier Side.

The Crossbone Gundam manga is the direct sequel to F91. Two of Crossbone Gundam's sequels, Steel 7 and Ghost, lead-in to Victory.

So which way would you think is the best to start the series off?.

I know Wing came after, I meant that Wing is such a massive tribute to UC Gundam from 0079 to F91 (and most likely Victory).

So The Ronah Family didn't want anything to do with taking over earth?. It was just ruling thw Frontier side of colonies?.

What exactly goes down in those novels leading up to Victory?.

F91 kinda feels just random now, I liked it but it just seems to not fit anywhere if Victory is a fresh series with no real link to F91.

Probably the aired order. The problem here isn't just that the episodes aired out of order, it's that all the stuff that would normally make up episode 1 is shown as a flashback in the second episode, so even then you sort of get the feeling that the way the episodes were produced probably wasn't the original idea.

Now I understand what you meant. I kinda like how they did that with the beginning of this series.

The one old man from the League Militaire I think was voiced by Sentai's Shitari.

I still would have prefered some info on the fall out from F91 and Char's Counterattack in this series. But so far so good.

You mean the Crossbone Gundam manga series?

The third manga, Steel 7, explains where the V2 Gundam's Minovsky drive system and Wings of Light come from. The first Minovsky drive system is built into the Mother Vanguard which allowed the ship to create its Sail of Light. The Federation's military research organization, SNRI (Strategic Naval Reseerch Institute, made miniaturized versions of the Minovsky drive system and installed them in their F99 Record Breaker mobile suits. It is implied that SNRI's Side 2 branch, which became BESPA (Ballistic Equipment and Space Patrol Armory), made use of some of the F99 plans and research to help in their development of the Zanscare Empire's mobile weapons.

I still would have prefered some info on the fall out from F91 in this series.
The main characters of F91, Seabook and Cecily, take over the Crossbone Vanguard to fight against the Jupiter Empire in the Crossbone Gundam manga. The Jupiter Empire is hinted to have supported, and possibly influenced behind the scenes, the Zanscare Empire during the latter's invasion of Earth. Zanscare's massive psycommu weapon, the Angel Halo, is implied to be created by the Jovians.
