Mobile Detective Jiban - Thoughts & Opinions

Amongs the various Metal Heroes that have cropped up, there is one that not a great deal of people talk about: Mobile Detective Jiban.

I myself haven't seen the series because its kinda hard to find. But the information I have gathered about the series has me very intrigued, in that the series itself is very much influenced by the RoboCop film, at the very least the storyline is similar about a cop that is slain in the line of duty and is brought back as a cyborg to continue the fight against crime.

I'm curious though if anyone out there has actually watched the series and to give their thoughts and opinions about the series overall.

I grew up watching it, Its a very boring series. The main female character (Mayumi) is probably the most retarded and worst acted japanese kid Ive ever seen. Theres an awesome arc were Jiban dies but that's about it. The designs for the hero and most of the Bioron are pretty badass though.

Whoa spoiler there, bud.

I watched it as a kid too, and while not the most exciting series, there's a pretty good section around the middle, culminating with...what the above poster described. That's a seriously intense moment. On the other hand, a good part of Biolon's plans are hilariously campy, kinda reminiscent of older shows. The Robocop influence is there, but plot-wise it's hardly relevant.
All in all, though, it was the last Metal Hero i've enjoyed. The following series started to differ too much from the original idea.

thanks for your honest thoughts and opinions. given how much awesome Tokusatsu programming is out there, it is hard to differentiate between the best and the worst. very often its up to personal taste if a certain thing appeals to you or not, and I'm weaving my way through all of the years of Tokusatsu to discern what is worth my time and what isn't.

Its probably best that I give this one a pass, especially since Robot Detective K is a much better Metal Hero anyway. :)

I think Jiban is a good series. Good action scenes, character designs and soundtrack (the BGM´s are recycled from older series, like Inazuman, Daitetsujin 17, Gavan, Sharivan, Shaider and Juspion).

Some of Byolon´s schemes are really ridiculous, but the series had dramatic episodes.

If you have doubts about watch Jiban, try see episodes 1, 2, 4, 11 (Jiban´s origin) and 12. This episodes are a good sample from the series.

Personally, I think Janperson did a better job with the cyborg-cop theme than Jiban did. The origin of the hero himself was more interesting, and the main villain was very cool. Janperson also seemed to have a more serious feel to it, compared to Jiban which felt extremely campy at times.

I've only seen the movie. For some reason there are very few Juspion, Jiban, Exceedraft and Janperson episodes out there. I may have to resort to buying the DVDs, and I usually only buy subbed ones.

Robot Detective is not a Metal Hero.

Janperson is complete here on the forum. And I posted all episodes of Exceedraft the other day but Metal Heroes don't get as much love here as they should... :redface2:
