Mixed martial arts is now more popular than boxing

In the newspaper today are the headliner fights in the UFC - Ultimate Fighting Championship, the premiere league in mixed martial arts. Even if the fights today are not championship fights, they have a pay-per-view which means mixed martial arts fights are not popular. With boxing, there have been no more pay-per-view for a long time. But there is a unique fight on August 26, this year. It is a bout between Floyd Mayweather, an undefeated welterweight boxing champion against Conor McGregor, a mixed martial arts fighter.

Here in Hawaii we have fighters too that fight mixed marital arts. Angela Lee just won the mixed championship fight today says the local newspaper! Locally it's very big too! The article can be found at Honolulu Star Advertiser online.

You are right Alexandoy, mixed martial arts fights are not popular anymore how it was in the past. Here in Romania, most people prefer watching football championship, tennis or handball. Maybe few times a year, people watch a boxing or martial art match!

I'm a fan of "Unstoppable" Angela Lee too. I thought she was based in Singapore? Anyway, she was a member of Evolve MMA Singapore, and the youngest female to ever held the Championship title at age 19. She is currently the reigning, undefeated ONE Championship Women's Atomweight Title holder at ONE FC.

I'm not a huge fan of martial arts or boxing or wrestling so I really couldn't tell the difference. I prefer non-contact sports like Tennis or Golf. But because of Rhonda Rousey, I would watch any boxing or wrestling match or martial arts.

I enjoy mama and UFC far more than boxing or wrestling. You were correct in stating that the match between Mayweather and McGregor is unique. It's ridiculous though. They're putting a "boxer" in the ring with a guy who specializes in"grappling" techniques. It's just a money-maker....not a realistic, well-matched fight.

I don't watch a lot of wrestling, boxing or martial arts but out of the three I think I prefer martial arts since it is a bit more diverse. But, if it as good as it sounds then I might check it out in the future a bit more.

I think the demand on the TV is leading to that scenario. As you can see this can be surely a good option to learn martial arts. And there seems to be demand on the TV media along with the other options. So it seems like boxing is fading eventually. As the MMA taking lead these days.

As someone trained in martial arts before, I am definitely not surprised that MMA is more popular than boxing. We can watch more a variety of fighting styles in MMA and most people like to compare and pit martial arts against one another. Therefore, MMA will definitely be more popular. Most sponsors will head over to the MMA scene eventually.

American have lost interest in boxing because they can't identify with this new breed of boxers, many of whom don't even speak English and wouldn't promote a fight to the American audience to save their lives. The days of American domination of boxing are over and Americans have suddenly declared that boxing is boring and dead. driven out of the boxing elite by Eastern Europeans and the British with Asians and Latinos dominating the lower weight classes. American amateur boxing system is in complete shambles and their presence at the 2016 Olympics is almost non-existent.Imagine that the UFC male champions would be Shamil Abdurakhimov, Ilir Latifi, Yoel Romero, Tarec Saffiedine, Rashid Magomedov, Mirsad Bektic, Takeya Mizugaki and Ali Bagautinov. Would your average American casual MMA fan care about UFC? Not really, the interest would drop significantly.
