Mighty Morphin Zyuranger! - Talk Up!

Ah I see. You don't like things explained. I shall remember that for later. In closing, if you chose to pretend that RRR is legit subs good for you, but don't pretend that they are legit subs, and for god sake don't tell others that want legit subs to watch them.

Oh my friggin god dude, you are dense. All he is asking is what is the difference between watching this RRR guy's subs compared to watching it raw. He understands the guy is not using accurate translations, but that is NOT what he is asking.

Kurenai, I will say what I feel like saying because that is the purpose of a discussion board. It isn't my fault I type what I think and KingRanger is making just as many insults towards Forever Knight as I was to him, so what is the difference?

and what is wrong with using an "online episode guide" for the subbing?. You are still understanding a ton more than watching it raw, now remember... I'm a big raw watcher so I still found it helpful.

If it's okay for me to step in here, I think there are two main problems:

1. Even if the guy admits he's basically guessing on a lot of parts, just having subs there adds an air of legitimacy to the project. I saw this a lot during the speedsubbing boom in anime fandom, when you had people PASSIONATELY DEFENDING translations that were widely known to be wrong. People did this either because the guesslation was the first sub they saw and they didn't want to acknowledge that their first reaction was wrong, or because the guesslation reinforced what they wanted to believe about the show.

2. Even if you do accept that only part of what you're seeing is accurate, you still have no way of knowing what parts those are. So while you will be getting a lot of useful information, you'll also be getting a lot of information that's downright wrong, primarily in things that aren't covered in summaries, like characterization.

On that point, if he's mostly subbing characters based off of "tone of voice," his subs are probably reinforcing whatever natural biases a raw-watcher would already have. This adds a further sense of legitimacy to the subs, leading to perceptions that can be even harder to dispel, even after the show gets a real translation. (And if you find yourself doubting the annoying tendency of fandom to cling to information that's obviously wrong just because it reinforces their biases, just repeat to yourself these words: "Lost Galaxy was more popular than Gingaman in Japan.")

In short, it's pretty much the embodiment of the saying "the blind leading the blind."

Now, you can say "well, the guy admits that he's making things up, and people are stupid if they can't read the fine print," and you'd be right, in part. But stupid or not, it's still going to happen, it's still going to shape people's notions of the show, and it's still going to lead to conflict in the fandom.

So anyway, I hope you can at least understand why some people would be put out by the fact that RRR even goes there, and not want to see the practice spread or encouraged.

You should take a quick gander around the episode at various points, I'm sure you'll be able to notice it faster than most.

You'll say what you think as long as it's within the boundaries of the rules, otherwise I'll ask you not to post anything that would be deemed offensive to other members. We have rules here, you don't have to like them, but you're better off elsewhere if you don't feel the need to follow them.

Jebus. Relax guys. Can we have a healthy discussion without the flame and name calling? I for one, love the first MMPR up until the end of the Thunderzords part. Then everything went tits up from there. So, seeing the original show that inspires it is awesome. Can't wait to see the first gattai :)

I don't mind being civil, but why should I be civil when another member is doing the exact same thing? If he wants to be treated with respect, he should treat others with respect to. This is a two way street, not one way. I am not going to be civil to someone who treats others and myself like crap. I'll stay on topic, but KR should do the same instead of ranting on about why someone should not watch some FREE subs a guy puts together.

The topic is zyuranger. The "subs" brought up were about zyuranger. The subs brought up were about Fake ZYuranger subs. Do you see a pattern here? See how all three instances are about ZYuranger. And what's this thread about... Hmm... Gee.. lets see... Oh yeah it's about Rice Crispies. Yeah I sure went off topic didn't I.

Hey Dr.Kain. Lets call a spade a spade. The ONLY reason you ever make it a point to tag me like this is because you have some old grudge against me. Move on with your life man. Get outside. Go for a walk. Play some video games.

In closing. Get a life.

I just finished watching episode 5 and I loved it. Since MMPR episode 4 'A Pressing Engagement', the King Sphinx was one of my favorite day of the monster when I was a kid. Now, I saw this version, DoraSphinx is awesome. I remember most part that used to be in MMPR. So, now Geki is in his dream. I'm looking forward to see the next episode.

Yay, the final volume arrived today and I just blazed through all ten episodes through the day. Man were they awesome. This series is a flawed series, but it is still an excellent one by far and very enjoyable. It is also nice to finally own all of the Sentai series I consider must owns minus GekiRanger (I'm waiting for a BR release on that one). Speaking of Geki, the actor for Geki has an interview in this volume. It is strange though, because only Geki and Boi were interviewed throughout all 5 volumes. While I know not every Sentai actor has interviews in the booklets, it seems strange that they would only do two of the six rangers. Anyway, the only bonus feature on the entire series is on the last disc, which has all 50 episode previews compiled inton one twelve minute segment. To be honest, it is kind of stupid. When I saw a bonus feature, I hoped it was going to be the Zyu2 footage, especially since the episode synopsis that is in the volume's booklet mentions MMPR and PRSamurai for some reason. Sadly, being that I am not that fluent in Japanese, I have no idea why they even mention them.

With that said, now that I am done watching the series on DVD, it is time to start rewatching it subbed.

BTW, when in case anyone was wondering, what I mean by Sentai series that are must owns is that I now have every series I wanted the most on DVD. It does not mean I am not buying any others, because I would like to get OhRanger, MegaRanger, Changeman, Jetman, and Liveman some day in the future when money is not as tight.

Duuuude, I fuuken love Zyuranger! This was a milestone Sentai. It was the first to be shown across America, the first to have a permanent 6th Senshi, and first to have a "Megazord" that didn't look like a bunch of boxes (BFJ-Jetman). The list goes on and on.

TV-N should make this a top, TOP priority.
