Here's the main reason. Back in the early 90's he was charged with child molestation. Although he kept saying he was innocent, he and the boy's family settled things outside of court. This made the mass public think that he was guilty. The second case in 2003(which he won) and his odd behavior just threw gas to the fire.

But despite all that, you have to admit that he was a great performer and musician

No one ever said it was okay that he molested children (if he did, I don't really have an opinion) just that he did have a bad childhood. You're right, it's not okay for someone to do those things but that doesn't mean getting fucked in the head for whatever reason didn't cause him to do so. There's a difference between what one does and why and actually passing moral judgement on that. You're really oversimplifying things.
