Meet The Creature Commandos

We were told we would see nothing from the promised DC Gunnverse at SDCC, mainly because there was too much construction going on behind the scenes to allow for any previews. That’s been mostly true so far — except in one case. The promised cartoon that falls under the Gunnverse, Creature Commandos, premiered a surprise trailer during a DC panel. The Creature Commandos are an elite team who are secretly working for the government, taking on dangerous missions they deem too dangerous for humans…but not for monsters. Monsters like Dr. Phosphorous, the glowing skeleton man who resembles Blight from Batman Beyond (yet isn’t). Weasel, whom you might remember from Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie. Steandfast tin soldier GI Robot, and fish out of water Nina Mazursky. Both Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein are part of the team, and before you yell at me, this time “Frankenstein” is really his name (his full name is “Eric Frankenstein”). This new DC project really reminds me of a blend between Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad. The ragtag team dynamic, with a mix of quirky, unconventional characters, feels reminiscent of what we saw with the Guardians. Just like how James Gunn took a group of relatively unknown superheroes and made them compelling and entertaining, it looks like this DCU project is aiming for a similar effect.

You’ve got a bunch of misfit characters, each with their own distinct quirks and abilities, coming together to form a team that might not seem like an obvious fit at first glance but has the potential to create some incredible chemistry. That’s a formula that worked so well for the Guardians, and it’s exciting to see DC take a similar approach.

At the same time, there’s a bit of Suicide Squad energy here, too. The idea of having characters who are a bit rough around the edges and are thrown into high-stakes situations is something both the Suicide Squad and this new project seem to share. The mix of humor, action, and the occasional dark twist feels like a natural crossover between these two styles.

The unique character designs and the clean, polished animation add a fresh visual element that enhances the whole experience. With such a talented cast and the promise of a compelling storyline, I’m looking forward to seeing how this series develops. It’s got the potential to bring together the best elements of both Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad, offering something new and exciting for fans of both franchises.

I'm excited about Creature Commandos. The mix of lesser-known monsters like Dr. Phosphorous and Weasel alongside more familiar faces like Frankenstein and his Bride is a refreshing take. It's interesting to see Amanda Waller involved yet again; while some might feel she's overused, I appreciate the consistency in character use across the DC Gunnverse. Her presence adds a layer of continuity that ties everything together, making the universe feel cohesive. Weasel was fun in Suicide Squad so nice to see him again

The Creature Commandos show in DC comics is quite refreshing. It's a mix of monsters and superheroes coming together, which is different from the usual superhero team-up stories. The actors chosen, like Indira Varma and Maria Bakalova, seem really promising. But some people are starting to feel like Amanda Waller, a character who appears in a lot of DC projects, is showing up too often. I hope the show can find a good balance so that Amanda Waller doesn't take over the spotlight from the new characters and the main storyline.

When I saw the name Maria Balakova... I am in! I love that actress since Borat 2.

I'm excited about the eclectic mix of characters, especially Frankenstein and his Bride. The casting looks top-notch, and I'm curious to see how they'll bring these characters to life. Amanda Waller's role in forming the team makes sense given her background, but I do agree she’s been overused lately. It would be nice to see other characters take on similar leadership roles. Nonetheless, I'm optimistic about the show and can't wait for its premiere.

Amanda Waller's involvement feels a bit forced at this point. I am so sick of that fat politician. She is like Trump in Oprah's body.

The Creature Commandos trailer was a pleasant surprise at SDCC. The lineup of characters is intriguing, and I can't wait to see how they interact. The voice cast is stellar, and I'm particularly excited about seeing Weasel again.
