Masked Rider on DVD!

Hey hey hey....not all dubbed toku shows are considered comedies. Ultraman Tiga wasn't a comedy...neither was the original Ultraman. Personally, I'd rather see it dubbed than butchered. Especially if they're gonna use a series like Faiz. I mean, if they redo Faiz, how are they going to explain the three units?? Or Smart Brain...

Well...Faiz did set a base for an adapt...the question is would the writers go for it???

Such as...the concept of "transforming humans"...would they make them "aliens?"

The explaination of "Life after Death"...Orphenochs were pretty much individuals who experienced a near death experience as a result evolution occured...some took advantage of their powers and some even became evil...others used them to protect the innocent...others didn't want this burden put upon them...that was probably the main element of Faiz I liked.

Oh...change Smart Brain Motors to Smart Brain Technologies or Enterprises...it will open the horizon for the story a bit. If they wanted to, they can use Psyga and Oga and redo the final battle...but that's just me. I know it's asking a lot from writers, but the current Faiz story worked...just need some touch ups.

Unfortunately, I don't see that happening (...okay...when pigs fly as hell freezes over...) because studios have a tendency to make an attempt at being "innovative" and that doesn't work out some times. One more thing...either the hero screams like a maniac while fighting or doesn't say anything at all and just focuses on his/her task...last thing we need is Faiz saying something like...

"I'M HERE TO TOSS YOUR SALAD!!!"

..."dude" is an okay term...just don't make it habitual.

The only way I can accept an American version of Kamen Rider 555 or any Kamen Rider series, is..

..is that they simply translate it into English.
No booting out Japanese characters and replacing with American characters, no changing of names, no changing of storyline, no editing out "violent" scenes, no bullshit!! I want it to be exactly the same and no different to the Japanese original (unlike Saban's Masked Rider was to RX). If Takumi is in the Japanese original then he should be in the American version too, and should be called "Takumi", not "Bobby" or any other bullshit, just simply "TAKUMI", and the same goes with the other Japanese characters. Even if his lips lose synch with the American voiceover, that doesn't matter. I've seen the German dub of Winspector and Power Rangers, and they had synch loss with the lips, but that didn't bother me at all. The American version of 555 should also include the original Japanese background music too. No Hip Hop / Rappy Bullshit!! Everything that was from the Japanese original must be in the American version, with it's original Japanese names and original Japanese EVERYTHING!!! All I want is simple straight English translation, *bangs fist to desk, hard* no bullshit!!

Because if a Japanese TV show is going to be shown worldwide it should be shown in it's original Japanese form, and not made into an American show. Otherwise it should not be shown. If the American audiance don't like the Japanese original, that basically means they just don't like Japanese TV Shows.

And no I am not being an "Anti Americanitus" (or whatever it's called). I do enjoy watching an episode of The Simpsons now and again, in it's original American form. How would you like it if they made The Simpsons into an Anime, and renamed Homer as "Hayabusa", Marge as "Kasumi", Bart as "Jin", etc.. bet you wouldn't like that!!

I'm just saying how I want an American Kamen Rider series to be.

So long as the original Simpson's was still available, I wouldn't care if an anime was made out of it. Homer as Hayabusa, Marge as Kasumi and Bart as Jin sounds actually kinda interesting. :anime:

Not to mention Simpson's is more than past its prime.

But yeah... *shrug* I wouldn't care. Now I get two shows instead of one.

I wouldn't mind a straight and faithful adaptation, but to be honest I don't think the market is big enough yet.

I definately don't agree with "if it's not Japanese then it shouldn't be shown", then generations of children that've enjoyed the stories and fun of Power Rangers wouldn't have that in their childhood.

I think GranSazar and JustiRiser are more primed for adapatiion tho. Kamen Rider is all too dark and serious for any kind of workable adaptation. And a straight dub... nobody but us would watch, and about 3/4th of us wouldn't watch it because it was dubbed into English.

I don't see why it should be considered as "stupid" to have a Japanese show being shown worldwide in it's original Japanese form dubbed in English. Plus, it's Masked Rider we're talking about, not Power Rangers.

The only "originality" I seen in Saban's Masked Rider is the lame comedy, the poor editing, the crappy laserbeams from the Ribolocane, and that annoying "Ferbus" character.

What we're saying is not go the stupid route this time. PR's a success because it's action/fantasy/adventure..... not some kinda zany hybrid comedy.

Power Rangers had their own characters and became a success, probably because the American audiance never got to know the Japanese original cast. I'm not saying if they discovered the ZyuRangers they would turn against the Power Rangers as if they were traitors, that would be unknown. Here's a good idea, maybe we should put it to a test. Get some kids round, sit them through episode 1 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, then episode 1 and 2 of Kyoryu Sentai ZyuRanger (preferably TV Nihon's version with Subtitles, so they can understand it), and see what they think.

At this time... I really don't see dubbed Japanese programming doing all that well. Bring ZyuRanger to kids and only the special ones that were like us would watch, while others would look for characters they could be and identify with.

I think if someone like myself were to do it, you'd get some honests results, but kids are easily manipulated into saying and doing what the adults want them to say or think.

Ultraman didn't stick with kids and it's not because of silly dubbing. Kids won't notice that or care, as plenty of successful kids shows have horrendous dialogue already. Difference in culture and what the market wants now dictates its rise and fall.

Here's another good idea, try NOT aiming Kamen Rider 555 at children. I don't see what's wrong with aiming it at Teenagers or Young Adult, since Wolverine/Batman/Marvel Superheroes/Whatever are superheroes like Kamen Rider, and they have been popular with these age groups since the 60's.

Only in HIGH budget movies. Television show production quality, and yeah... I'm sorry, but the Japanese level of production value is much lower than America's. Only special and talented teens and adults like ourselves would be down with it. Others would point and laugh or turn away self-consciously.

Only reason why our super heroes work in live action is because many we can identify with and it's got a giant bucket of production values that paint over all the things one might need to use their imagination for. And American teens and adults are self conscious about using their imaginations. Makes them feel "immature". So Spidey had such a budget that you don't have to worry about suspending disbelief or anything.

Kamen Rider.... not gunna werk. Maybe in limited release DVD.

See, what I care about most is stories and fun.

I don't do it to wage some war against American television and its adaptations to prove I'm 133t Japanese otaku!

I just want people to have fun with this genre of stories, even if it has to be redone with stick figures and a flip book. So long as I see kids running around with toys and drop kicking monsters, I'm happy, I don't care if they do it because they saw an American or Japanese actor.

Kinda like the new Power Puff Girls anime that's coming out. Look like fun and the original Power Puff Girls will always exist.

Now we can have even more fun!

That's all I'm sayin'...
But really, I'm not entirely bothered about a Japanese show being aired on American TV, it's nothing exciting, but I am a bit bothered about having the American version being shown worldwide while the Japanese original only being shown in Japan. Since I live in Britain, it feels like being told you're not allowed to see anything Japanese because the Americans are gonna censor it, and that sucks!! But don't get me wrong about Power Rangers, I love Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, they were my favorites when I was a kid, but ever since there were these sequels it started not being as good as it used to be, and later started getting a bit boring, Ninja Storm was the worst, and I think it's sad that they're just gonna keep kicking out the Japanese cast every year.

*PANT* OK Rant Over.

What about Lost Galaxy! That was AWESOME!

Anyway, Japansese shows will be shown worldwide when the world wants it. It'll just take time and for the world to be exposted to the genre however possible.

Like how anime went throught its time of hack and slash and now... it's everywhere because the world wants it.

Same will happen for Japanese shows, but people gotta get into the genre first and that's by just making it because it's fun.... not because of what race is doing it.

I'll credit Masked Rider for one thing. After seeing how awful the american filmed parts weres, I could still see the awsomeness of the japanese footage and that fueled my interesting in Kamen Rider. Some of the better episodes of MR were when we got mostly original japanese footage from it, like the Golden Dregon fight and the 13 Riders.

Corse there is!! It's boring!!

Why don't you tell me what's so good about making a Japanese show American? What are the benifits? Because in Masked Rider I saw nothing!! And yes, Masked Rider is comedy, unfunny comedy that is.

Welllllll.... there are the countless children who had fun with the toys and playing outside pretending they were Masked Riders or Power Rangers.

Sorry Basri!!
But I'm not critisising him for liking Masked Rider, I'm just abit bored with this happening every year.. Japanese show turns American, American gets worldwide fame, Japanese only gets fame in Japan.. even though I like the original Power Rangers and VR Troopers...

Blame the world.

There are uncountable amount of shows all over the world that don't see worldwide release. German, Indian, Chinese... near endless. The world just doesn't want it. They want stuff they can identify with.

Someday we'll get it, maybe, but until then, people should be able to enjoy the genre and have fun if they can.

Oh heck, like I said I'm not entirely bothered about Japanese shows being shown in the US. I can always buy imports from Japan (even though they're too expensive), or download it off the internet or buy HK Bootlegs (even though they're surposed to be illegal), but sometime when you want to watch a Japanese show the way it's surposed to be you don't have a choice.

OK, who reckons this thread should be closed?!! It's getting nowhere right now!!

No need for it to be closed. You expressed your opinion.... ain't nuthin' wrong with that until you feel you need attack someone to do it.

there is a few episodes of masked rider which i think are better than the whole wild force season such as Dance Crazy and the green eyed monster were very amazing episodes people just like to base thier opinion on one episode they have seen instead of the whole season or what they have read from other people

If Disney ever wants put together their own Adult Swim-type block. (Bloody unlikely!) Or if the real Adult Swim ever wanted to "cheat" like Toon Disney does with PR. Then I would be all for someone at least giving a new Masked Rider a try. Until them, I'm perfectly happy with it being strictly a Japanese program.

I'd like this idea. Like... Blackbelt TV doing a live-super block or something. Even though I dont' have BBTV, I think some channel already thoroughly immersed in Asian entertianment would be the best place.

Another bonus... this stuff is more likely to slip through to the mainstream and THUS... cause fand like Super here... not to mention me and the rest of the fans who now are into Toku because of Power Rangers.... like myself.
