MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls– Does Marvel Even Need Capcom Anymore?

I’m honestly so happy for the ArcSys crew—this already feels like a passion project just from the little we’ve seen. You can tell they’re pouring their heart into it. The attention to detail, the animation, the roster picks—it's like they finally got to open a toy box they've been dreaming about since forever. And now they’re arranging the action figures with surgical precision and dramatic lighting. I wouldn't be surprised if someone over there cried while animating Doom’s cape.

It’s honestly wild to see Star-Lord treated like one of Marvel’s top characters now. Not long ago, most people didn’t even know who he was, and now he’s standing alongside icons like Captain America on a roster. He’s not quite at that level yet, sure, but just seeing him included like this shows how far he’s come. Also, huge respect to both ArcSys and Marvel for keeping this project completely under wraps—no leaks, no early spoilers. That kind of secrecy is rare these days. The game looks amazing visually. I really hope it feels as good as it looks, but considering ArcSys is handling it, I’m pretty confident they’ll deliver.

A Marvel fighting game by Arc System Works is honestly a dream come true. I trust Arc because of what they’ve done with Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ. The anime-style visuals with Marvel characters? That’s exactly the type of unique presentation I didn’t even know I needed.

The 4v4 format sounds chaotic in a good way. I can already imagine the combos and team setups people are going to invent. Also, the focus on being beginner-friendly without dumbing things down is perfect for me. I’m not a pro, but I still want some depth.

I’m hoping they add characters like Moon Knight or Scarlet Witch. It’s exciting that they left room for surprises. This is definitely on my radar for 2026.

What excites me most is the decision to lean into the Japanimation aesthetic. That choice alone gives this game a visual identity that separates it from Marvel’s usual presentation. I’m a designer, and I’ve always believed that the look of a game can be as important as the mechanics. It’s about the tone it sets.

Arc’s style has always been polished, expressive, and fluid. Bringing that to the Marvel universe makes total sense, especially if they want this to appeal globally. I’d love to see how they render something like Doctor Doom’s armor or Spider-Man’s movement in this style.

Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider is a cool inclusion. It shows they’re not just relying on the same top-tier heroes over and over. I’d love to see some of the X-Men who don’t get much spotlight anymore, or even characters from Marvel’s cosmic side.

Also, I appreciate the mention of easter eggs in the stages. That kind of detail makes a game more fun for longtime fans. I’ll definitely be pausing during transitions to see what I can find.
