What happened to you? You used to be a nice person when you came here.

Also, that stuff in italics is stupid. Marvel doesn't own the rights to Spider-Man anymore, which you know because you talked about it earlier. They would rather the film do poorly because if it did, Sony would stop making them and they could get the rights to Spidey back, and he would immediately join the Avengers like he did in the comics. Maybe they just really, really enjoyed the film.

"You don't agree with my point so your are not nice" You know Sage I expect that from certain others, but it's a real disappointment coming from you. I thought about replying to the rest of your post, but I am just going to start not replying to anything you say anymore. Nose dive man.:sly:

ASM Peter was nothing like the Peter Parker I grew up on.

Which one is that? Was it the 90's or 80's cartoon or just in the comics? I have only read Ultimate and a few other special stories aside the one I got during the 3rd film's premiere [A OMD story from Free Comic Book Day where Peter webs the crap out of Iron Man] aside from a mostly animated experience [I've seen much of 90's Spiderman when I was a kid from reruns up until Spectacular. I have seen every Ultimate episode.]

As one who has mostly watched the animated versions, it feels like ASM is more like Spectacular mixed with what I've read of the first comic. Didn't much like the first story, but I should give it another try like the first X-Men stories. What was the comic one really like?

I don't care that you disagree with me. Feel free to do that all you want. But I just remember you being a nicer person than this. It's an (likely futile) call for you to come back to that.

Man I don't know what you guys are talking about. Aside from (as I already said) his "super cool sick nasty skate boarding," this is totally the Peter Parker I grew up with. He's completely what I imagine Spider-Man to sound and act like in live action, as well as how Peter Parker deals with his issues.

I mean different strokes for different folks and everything. But I just can't conceive of saying that this version of Peter isn't Peter.

I've read Spider-Man all my life. This was not Peter Parker. Not Stan Lee's, not Roger Sterns, not Tom DeFalcos, not DeMatties, not even fucking Bendis.

People who say this "is the Peter they grew up on" probably havent been reading Spider-Man all that long or don't get him at all.

Or they just disagree?

I mean I've read every single issue of Amazing Spider-Man. And yeah, it sure isn't Stan Lee's Spider-Man (who was pretty awful, just like almost every Silver Age hero I've read with the sole exception of the first 20 issues of The Flash), but the Peter in Amazing Spider-Man is far closer to the mid-late 80s, 90s, and Ultimate Peter Parker.

What makes him so much not Peter Parker?

So what is the Peter Parker you guys have grown up on like then? I've been a fan of Spider-Man all of my life as well and I felt as though Amazing Spider-Man got the Peter I've been watching through cartoons, the Ultimate Comics, and some of the Amazing Spider-Man Comics(Mostly Dan Slotts run but I've read a few issues written by other writers as well)

Yeah, I'm curious as well. I don't buy comics so my exposure was more the 80s and 90s cartoons. I thought ASM Peter captured the essence of those Peter Parkers well and adapted it for a more modern audience.

I'm interested in understanding what aspects of his character were different.

Its funny that you would say that. Because Bendis disagrees. Kurt Busiek, who wrote the amazing (ha!) Untold Tales of Spider-Man, would disagree. Mark Waid, who writes a pretty awesome Spider-Man himself, disagrees. Peter David, responsible for one of the more popular and interesting takes on the character, disagrees, even if he doesn't think it was a perfect film.

If you don't like the film? Cool. That's your right. You are welcome to dislike the film, because you are welcome to your own opinion. But nobody is welcome to their own facts. And the facts are that creators who have worked on Spider-Man past and present, thought it was a good film.
