Kikaider 01 DVD Boxset?

Forever Knight

Eye See You
I was told by Generationkikaida that it would be released next month. Any new info on that?. I'm really looking forward to getting it and the HAKAIDER FORCE poster from the website.

Not really, considering all you get. All 52 episodes, subtitled, plus a lot of extras, and it's way cheaper than the R2 DVD box was.

What makes it so special to charge that much when other DVDs of Japanese shows are the same price of that region?

It's really not that much though. From a quality to price perspective, it's an amazingly good deal. The R2 Box (which is out of print with no re-release announced yet) went for about $550, and you basically get the same thing (with optional subtitles) for $169. The extras are different, but that's about the only point of contention I can think of, but either way you're still getting a ton.

If you don't care about extras or subtitles, you can always download it in Japanese, but the R1 set really the best way to see V3 subtitled right now. And I don't even need the subtitles, and I still bought it, because I missed out on the R2 set. And anyway, there wouldn't be any chance of Kikaida 01 coming to DVD if people hadn't bought the other releases. Same with any legit releases of Tokusatsu in the US- they aren't going to happen if people don't buy the first ones. So in the long run, it's worth it.

What I think are overpriced are the crappy HK sets with low-quality transfers, the same OP sequence used over and over, terrible nonsensical subtitles and... nothing else. So what if they're cheaper, I'd rather pay for good quality than no quality at all, but that's me. If the price of the R1 set is still too high for you, well, I can't help you there. But it is really not "stupidly expensive", when you put it in the big picture.

I understand that in comparasion to the R2 box set, yes it is cheap, however when you then compare that to other region 1 box sets that are subtitled versions from Japan it is expensive. Yes, it is cheaper than the R2 but come on, if it was a show that you didn't like you would think "that's stupidly expensive", the fact you're willing to pay for it comes into it as well.

I do want one though :P

The other thing to remember is that V3 is a fairly small release. It's not in every store, and I'm not even sure how widely available it was in Hawaii (maybe someone there can shed light on that.) The majority of people buying it are either in-state or doing so online, and that already is going to be a relatively small number, even if every V3 fan bought one. So in that regards, I can understand making it as expensive as it is, because for a small-time release, it's really quite good. But it's still not that expensive, and I think once you have your hands on one, it is easy to agree that it's worth the money, especially since one 11/12-episode R2 volume of an older series can go for over $100. But that's a whole different mess altogether.

Think if it also got a release per 5 episodes. So around 10 DVDs in total for around $15-20 so kinda cheap in that respect really. There's pros and cons for it I guess. Being the price it is though has turned me off buying it, which I'm sure a lot of other people have done as well.
