Keanu Reeves Confirmed As Spike For "Bebop"

Ah good, it's nice to see Hollywood try and make an effort to destroy everything I love.

That being said, I don't think it'll be Dragonball-level bad...but still pretty bad.

I've never had a problem with the guy. I'm not really bothered by this.

Who would be better besides the obvious snarky answer of "ANYBODY" or "EVERYBODY"?

IMO, Spike needs to be played by somebody that can be incredibly chill, and still get riled up to kick ass when need be. That's the thing about Spike's character, he's very calm and cool, but he spends most of the show towing the line between dark/pensive and just easygoing.

Keanu's been known to pull that off to some degree.... I just can't think of a big namer that'd have as much respect as I'm pretty sure Keanu has for it.

People act like the role was grabbed by Freddie Prinze Jr. or something. :P

Nah, the problem with Keanu is that he's so unnatural all the time. Even when he's supposed to acting mellow, he overplays it and comes off as wooden or just confused. He's so stiff all the time, like he's got something stuck up his ass.

I'm sure they hired him because he looks similar and is somewhat known for his action roles, but I wish they had gone with somebody a little more believable. Keanu Reeves holds movies back.

I think for most fans, there can be only one spike and that man is Steve Blum or the original japanese dubbed actor! I think for the fans, it's quite hard to adjust from steve to another, let alone a live action version of the character. As for me, I can't wait how this goes. Reeves sounded very enthusiastic about the whole thing. Whether he can do it or not, I'd like to believe he'll try and stay true to the character in the best of his abilitys...

...what I'm more interested about all this however isn't the actors but how they're going to represent this film, in terms of music and such.

In otherwords..."Yoko Kanno better be the composer you bastards!!!" type remark?

Yupz! It isn't Cowboy bebop without Yoko Kanno involved, but I'm also talking about the presentation of it. There's this certain dark noir vibe to bebop that I just love and Yoko's music kinda complements it very beautifully. I hope they can adapt that to the film. That's what I'm looking forward to the most :)

I wish Kanno does a theme for US Animation...

...AND OBAN STAR RACERS DOESN'T COUNT!!!:shakefist
