Kanpai Senshi After V - April 2014 (Sentai Parody)

So why isn't anyone talking about this show? Just because GARO's on again? (My review: "Same ****, different Garo.")

What's this show like -- is it any good, or is it as bad as it looks?

Reactions seem mixed, from what I can tell; some people I follow on Twitter happen to like it while I've seen people on other sites claim that "It's all talking, no action" so they weren't able to get into it.

I haven't seen it myself, though.

If I had to guess? The lack of battles, the show being mostly a parody of '70s Sentai and specifically Goranger (while a lot of the current English-speaking fanbase hasn't seen anything older than maybe Gekiranger), and Akibaranger still being fresh in people's minds

Lol it sure isn't because Garo's stealing all the thunder. As the guy who started the topics on the first two episodes of Garo 4, there's been very little chatter about Garo either. I don't know if that's because people are more likely to post if a show pisses them off and 'Flower of Makai' has been OK so far, if series 3 burned so many bridges that people just aren't watching this time around, or if there's just a general lull in the chat ATM.

I'd LOVE to watch After V, but I haven't. Why? Honestly...the sub group. Please don't misunderstand, it's not that I have anything against them. But if you're like me and you don't personally know any of the people involved with subbing then all you have to go on is the "brand name". If OT, GUIS, MFC, heck even TVN had been the ones who'd started subbing it, I'd have confidence that they were likely to finish the show because those groups have a history of finishing the series they start. But MegaBeast Empire doesn't yet have a track record of finishing sub projects. That's not a mark against them - they're a new group, that's all. But until they've shown that they're not going to sub half a show then disappear, I'm wary about starting one of the series they're subbing just in case the worst happens and I end up having gotten invested in a series only to never find out what happens in the end.

So ATM I'm playing the waiting game and as soon as they finish subbing the show (do we know how many episodes After V is meant to run for?) I'll be all over it like a rash

This isn't the first rodeo for the people involved in Megabeast's After V. Rest assured, they're not going anywhere.

I personally found it really boring. Now, I did approach the show for what it was. A show about a bunch of people talking about and parodying classic Sentai tropes, with no superhero action involved (even if I find that kinda lame). But for what it was, I didn't find it funny at all. Probably cause Sentai parodies have existed since well... at least since the 80s! There's hundreds of them. So the tropes that After-V pokes fun at aren't necessarily all that amusing. Seen it already a million times. They try to be a bit creative with it at times, but they just don't seem to try hard enough (or at times try too hard). And thus, everything tends to just fall flat and unmemorable. I think Sentai parodies like Carranger and Akibaranger are a lot more amusing, funny, and enjoyable. Heck even modern Sentai (which seem to do a lot of parodying as well) felt more amusing than After-V did imo.
