"Kamen" vs "Masked"

I think it's just what we hear. We hear "Kamen" Rider all the time, it just sounds right.

Besides, Kamen Rider isn't the only Jap series to have a crazy name translation problem. Super Sentai should technically be called "Super Squadron" by us, but I have only seen it spelled "Sentai".

Personally, I just call the series about the guy dressed as a bug who rides a motorcycle "Kamen Rider".

There might have been some slight misunderstandings or confusion. Here's a simpler explanation. Okay: the original title in Japanese: 仮面ライダー (romaji: Kamen Raidaa --> Kamen Rider) "Kamen Raidaa" is how it's pronounced in Japanese. A fully translated version of it is "Masked Rider" (translating "kamen" which means mask/disguise while raidaa is already a native english word meaning "rider") and that's it.

Both are correct, so whether you choose to see it as how it's actually pronounced verbally in japanese, or how it's written fully translated in english, is entirely up to you.

For me it's a personal aesthetic, and it also depends on who I'm talking to.

For people who are somewhat "in the know" (my best buddy Walter, my friend Vaughn, and my mom) I pronounce it "Ka-main Laida" with the rolled r's etc. but for people who aren't knowledgeable about it at all, I stick to "Common Rider" and usually tell them Kamen means Masked.
