Kamen Rider Shin - Thoughts & Opinions

Darker toned movie, needed more action scenes but I'd definatley watch it again.

Shin was one of the movies I grew up with, so I love him. Like I said in another thread, I would love to see him in his own series, or in a series with ZO and J.

I always thought Shin, ZO and J as a triumvirate of sorts for the 1990's, the sort of transitional period between the Showa era and Heisei era. These Kamen Riders didn't have their own TV series, but were given rather dark, atmospheric films, that seemed to be very different from your 'typical' Kamen Rider story.

aside from those three, there weren't any full blown Kamen Rider series until the start of the 21st century with Kamen Rider Kuuga.

I love Shin! His movie is awesome, and I get sad to see most people don't think the same. I would love to see him get a series, or at least a sequel movie!

The biggest problem Shin had, was that it tried to copy The Fly too much.
They could easily have used the original Shocker storyline. The first episodes of the original KR was full of horror and mystery. It would have been perfect for Shin.
The character also never interested me. I thought it was fine that they showed Shin having an emotional breakdown because of his new unwanted powers, but it just seemed to drag on for too long.

The first KR show had the short lived plot, where Ichigo is believed to have killed the very same person who saved him from Shocker.
They played with this plot in THE FIRST as well, though a bit differently.

I think it could have worked perfect in Shin, especially because he was much more of a monster than any other Rider.
Seeing him redeem himself and take revenge on those who made him would have been a lot more interesting plot for the movie, instead of seeing him run around doing nothing until the end.

Personally, I would rather like to see a ZO series

Says who? Ishinomori made Kamen Rider, he's the only one allowed to say what Kamen Rider is "suppose" to be. The only reason Shin didn't do well is probably because people were expecting a movie for kids, not because it's "suppose" to be a kids show.

Well, no, not exactly. Ishinomori made the themes of Kamen Rider, but people tend to forget one very important name: Hirayama Tohru. He was just as vital (and perhaps the slightest bit more since he worked directly on the shows more than Ishinomori did) to the idea of what Kamen Rider is.

It's a good read and very fascinating. However, what I collected from that was Hirayama was a producer, and Ishinomori the visionary. Hirayama insisted that Ishinomori be given credit, and Japan has kept up that tradition by giving credit to Ishinomori first. And so, I shall also honor Hirayama's wishes by also giving credit to Ishinomori first. That's just me, though. Everyone else may do as they please.
