I always felt there was something different in Kuuga-Blade that changed in Kabuto to now. I don't know if "gritty" is the right word but...

I personally felt that things "changed" after Kabuto. But the Post Kabuto era has given us some good stuff like Kiva, Decade, and W.

No amount of word changing will change the fact that Ouja is one of the greatest characters in toku. We all knew what he meant when he spoke. His acting and movements showed you. Ryuki was also my first Rider series and it is one of my favorites so don't try to nitpick as FK says.

You are already a step above the others.

Well, this was the latest pre-Decade Heisei Rider I'd finished, a couple of weeks ago, and I must say I rather enjoyed it. It had its rough and slow spots, but the characters were well-executed (my favorites of the "good guys" were the Zolda and Goro duo) and once things started heating up I was glued to the show wondering what was going to happen and who was going to die next.

And yes, Ouja made the damn show for me too. Even if "vexed" is a somewhat strange word for him to be repeating, his delivery via body language and tone conveyed the message to me loud and clear. Dude was a psycho, loved destruction, got pissed because he could. No explanation was needed, we already knew he was a murderer of the highest order. He made the battle royale happen every time it looked like the show was about to start running in place.

The show ending I'm of two minds about, if ONLY because if I were writing it, I'd've had it end just before the reset button got pushed. Nice, fun, fitting dark ending. I haven't watched the movies yet, so...

I'll definitely watch them. I just need to take a short break after marathonning 50 episodes. Probably next week I'll go back.

U mean Terui Ryu from W? Now that you think about it.........that comparison might not be too far off.

I mean, Asakura's response to everything is that "he's pissed/vexed" while Ryu's response to everything is "Don't ask me questions/Don't question me."

Very similar ways of executing to someone that you did something just 'cause you're annoyed

He's probably talking about Ryo Ashihara / Kamen Rider Gills. The guy you just don't want to mess around with, but he's just misunderstood. And in a sense, Asakura was indeed a Ryo on the far side of the spectrum.

I Really loved the first half of Ryuki and the developement of the main four riders. Each one seems to help and compliment each other that the further you go from shinji, the more depraved they seem to get which I liked (Ren being the bad boy with a heart, Kitoaka a money hungry business man looking for an easy win and Asakura just being a psychotic basterd.). You really start to feel and follow Shinji as a character and grow to root for the poor stupid shmuck.

It's the second half that I have my gripes with. Ren taking over the show annoyed me to no end and the characters evolution just started to go around in circles. maybe it's just because it got stagnent or something but they all seemed to be walking in circles for the remainder of the series. It was either that or characters just showing up and getting no developement (I'm looking at you Odin.)

The ending pissed me off to no ends, with the magic pictures coming to life and no explanation to what the hell the mirror world was in the first place. Shinji's death, though made with good intentions, just seemed to push him aside for Ryuki's Wolverine. I prefer the movies fanale hands down.

It's a great show, but it's second half pissed me off to no end and ruined most of my enjoyment.

Yeah, the movie is great!
I still don't know how an injured Shinji [HIDE]defeated a Ryuga in good health even though Ryuga's Final Vent is stronger, but hey, Shinji won![/HIDE]
