So this is something I've been working on in my head for a while, thought I'd pitch it to KR fans to see how it sounds. I'm sure there will be people who think the title "US edition" sounds silly. Basically there's no point to Americanize this show (except to please me), but really this is just an excuse for me to write it the way I thought it would play out when I started watching it.
Right up front I'd like to say that I hope none of the typical "OMG RUINED FOREVER" comments come up - this is just a piece of fiction I may or may not even write, and no one's forcing you to read, so if you're not interested just based on the title, please feel free to turn away now... That said, onto the pitch :3c
--Story--
Story is similarly built like the original. Seven years prior to the present time (in this case, 2016), a meteor crashes down on Earth, possibly the Grand Canyon so that it's a location no one discovers. An alien race known as Worms have been born from this meteor, and seek to eliminate the human race one by one.
The main character is Souji Tendou, copied from the original show right down to his actor(Hiro Mizushima)'s appearance, but given a somewhat different background which allows him to know about the Worms. Having no sister in this adaption, he lives alone in a small apartment, where he leads a simple life, seemingly having no job. He owns a Rider belt which has been kept in his closet, hidden, waiting...
--Reused Material--
Souji's beloved characteristics would be reused. He would have an ego like no other, and would quote his mysterious grandmother a lot. There is mystery regarding her current situation, as he says he lost her long ago. There is a gag in my head tempting me to say this just means she abandoned her zen-like lifestyle and became a hipster grandparent. Hilarity ensues.
ZECT may or may not be involved in this adaption. Rather, the main group of characters that Souji encounters is a police force. For a comparison of the idea I had in mind, see the NPA of the series Death Note, a group of characters like that. There is an idea to have Sou Yaguruma in this police force, but maybe with a less Japanese name so he doesn't stand out so much.
--Riders--
The Masked Rider System will be introduced as a new era of technology created in Japan to counteract these Worms, which are coincidentally sent over to the same police force Souji encountered. A somewhat-comedic scene comes to mind where they recognize these Zectors as being the same kind of device Souji used to become Kabuto, so they try desperately to use them (trying to say the code name but getting it wrong constantly), until they soon realize there's a note inside which tells them to ask for help from "Kabuto."
Every Riders place in this story are not known to me at this time. Kabuto is an obvious one, as he is the main character. TheBee may be played by the Yaguruma character as an homage to the original, and maybe there will even be a character like Kagami to be Gatack. However, at this time, I don't know who would own Sasword or Drake, and the Hopper twins are definitely unknown to me right now. I do, however, have the idea that Drake may be obtained by a reformed criminal. But this is currently up for debate.
--Final Thoughts--
The location this story takes place would probably be New York City, as it is a location I tend to resort to in my writing from time to time. All I know is there was a scene I had in mind where a street criminal attempts to rob Souji, to which he grabs the culprit by the wrist, and forcefully walks him to the police station, then opens the doors and tosses him in, thus introducing him to the police force. This may be worth using as an actual scene.
Overall, the concept of Worms is still intact, and Natives may even be inserted into this if I have a place for them later on. However, aside from Souji and the cameo of Yaguruma, every character involved would be entirely new unless I feel the need to insert one other. But for now, please read this and tell me what your thoughts are on the idea thus far.
