Kamen Rider Fourze: The Final Score

Yeah but wasn't Hibiki not intended to be a Kamen Rider series?

As far as I am concerned, if it has the name Kamen Rider in it, it is a Kamen Rider series whether it was intended to be or not. I wish I could say Gobusters is not a Sentai series, but it is.

As I just heard in this podcast. At some point during planning for 2005's series Toei considered dropping Kamen Rider and doing something new.
First it was to be a revival of sorts of Henshin Ninja Arashi, later they went to Ishinomori's idea mentioned before.
Long story short, by the time they started to come up with the story and characters it was already a Kamen Rider show.

You have to take into account the fact that Go-busters is produced by a Kamen Rider producer, and its head writer also wrote OOO and Ryuki. That's why they took a lot of chances with that series.

I really do not know how you could have the head writer of Ryuki and OOO and come up with something as boring as Gobusters.

The same way Nakashima can produce something like Fourze?

A series is bigger than any one person. As a writer, Kobayashi has a lot of input on the series, yes, but ultimately the producer and TV execs have the final say in the matter as they approve all of the scripts. Kobayashi's proven that she'll give the producer whatever he/she wants.

If the producer wants things or characters to be a certain way, then Kobayashi values her job well enough to play ball with them. If she wasn't, then you'd run into a situation like with Hibiki where she's fired and someone else brought in to do what the producer wants. It's a bit of a no-win situation when you're in that position.

Kamen Rider Fourze was an odd series for me, I was initially really excited about it. One of my favorite anime writers doing the series? Awesome. A great design that is without a doubt one of my favorite Rider suits? Great. Everything about Fourze seemed like it would be a unique show and...after a while that promise subsided. As much as I like his character, I think the show started to lose itself around the time Ryuusei was introduced. It was...bland. The characters didn't feel like themselves anymore, it was just an odd experience.

My biggest problem was getting to episode 30something and realizing this didn't feel like a show that was moving into its final quarter. Nothing felt incredibly game changing and each week played like just another episode to me. Like, as much as I enjoyed the last two episodes, those were the first episodes since part one of the Aries arc that I found myself thinking "Hey, this is really good!" and that just bugs me. In the time between those episodes I was watching and not finding myself capable of caring about what was going on.

So I guess...my final grade would be like a D-. The show had promise, but never quite delivered and failed to captivate me the way other Rider shows have in the past, or even in its own way after a while.

Pretty much.

The show that was going to be airing in 2005 wasn't always a Kamen Rider show, but once it was decided that it would be one, Hibiki was created.

I really do not know how you could have the head writer of Ryuki and OOO and come up with something as boring as Gobusters.
The same way she wrote characters you can dislike in Kamen Rider Den-O. Not everything they do is golden.

And that's why she's the greatest female to ever do anything. I think all the women here can agree with that.

Plot
[HIDE]I thought it was okay.My main problem is how the general "feel" of the series changed around the twenties. Most toku shows actually do this and I'm fine with it, because that's when the show usually gets better, but in Fourze's case, it got worse. Some of the school elements were taken out.If you look at the [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZLs254GGC8"]first trailer[/ame] and compared it to the late teens or early twenties, they don't seem too alike. It drifted from fun and slightly interesting to cheesy and boring. It was also evident how much of it was taken from W.I also really think Kengo's revival was rushed, since it the whole scene with him at the end was only roughly one minute 16 seconds. Not that long.

Forms

Fourze-
[HIDE]Fourze Base/Rocket States- Base hurts to look at.It looks terrible and silly.Rocket States on the other hand..I love Rocket States, which is strange because it's just a recolored Base States with rockets on his hands, which should actually make it the sillier form. But it's not. Also, they kinda did have an excuse for it being a repaint, since Base States is already modeled after a rocket. The belt is a clunky mess.

Elek- I really like Elek.Unlike most people, I don't mind the helmet one bit.I like that it has 3 Limit Breaks and all 3 were used in the show.I know that most people say that Billy the ROD is actually Billy the SWORD, but if you look at it, it is in fact a rod.The suit is one of the shiniest Rider suits in existence and I like that.

Fire-Fire States is a really beautiful form. The orange to fiery red that goes from the center to the outside of the mask is just really pretty. To me, the shoulder pads looked really cool too.The weapon, the Hi-Hack Gun is just okay to me.I like the clear red that they used for it and it's pretty interesting to have a fire themed form be able to extinguish fires as well.

Magnet-The thing that I like about Magnet is that it is what a mid-season upgrade should be.An upgrade of the original suit. Some mid-season upgrades just totally forget that it's not just some other alternate form that doesn't matter too much.It took a while to get used to it, because...Well, just look at it.It's a total brute.I really think the two joystick switches in the belt were innovative, but the Magphone looks really crappy.

Cosmic-I love this form.At first I was like "NAWW MAN HE DOEZN TLUK LIK A FINALE FORM!!" but then I saw the debut.I love the electric blue color of the suit and all its powers. The Barizun Sword is just awesome, and I really love how he thrusts the enemy through a warp hole into space for his finisher. It's a shame they didn't showcase all the sword combinations, as it would've been really neat to use them sometimes. Also, I feel that the switch combos were wasted potential and they were only used about 3 times and all 3 of those times, they were used on the right foot.

Meteor Fusion-It grew on me as time went on, much most of the suits.Nothing special here.

Meteor-
[HIDE]Meteor-At first, it came off to me as a really bland design. The only armor it had were the right shoulder pad and the helmet. It grew on me, like most Fourze designs and I find it really unique how the helmet was like a meteor crashing into the shoulder pads, which is kinda a planet.I find the Meteor Galaxy to be a fresh idea and we really haven't had that in Rider.Shame it doesn't get used much. The belt has to be one of my most favorite secondary Rider belts.Just the whole disco thing is really beautiful as a toy.

Meteor Storm-Toei was lazy.Unlike 99% of the community, I didn't mind the Meteor Storm Shaft too much.My only problem with it is that its finisher is just in a generic glow.Couldn't they just have added tornado effects to it or something?[/HIDE]

Music-
[HIDE]Switch On! is one of my favorite Rider OPs.I loved it the moment I heard it.The lyrics were ideal for a high school setting and it was really energetic.Giant Step was a fresh new type of song for Rider songs. The lyrics were really cheesy, but if you don't think about them, it's really good.At first, I absolutely despised Endless Play until I realized that it was perfect for Sakamoto fight scenes. It was full of energy and really provided the correct song to make the fight scenes a little more "explosive."Bounce Back was a glorified love song that should have been sung by the Astronauts.Cosmic Mind is probably my favorite ultimate form theme right next to Power to Tearer.

Shooting Star really gets you excited for Meteor. Its lyrics apply directly to the Rider, which most Rider songs don't do.It's not up to Treasure Sniper and Action Zero, but it's very good compared to other secondary Rider songs.I can't say the same for Evolvin Storm. It's the first theme song for the secondary Rider upgrade that was actually used in the show,(Don't Lose Yourself was never played in the show and Action Zero 2010 isn't exactly a battle song.) but it just came off as really weird. The song was repetitive (kinda like this entire post's vocabulary), and it just didn't do it for me.[/HIDE]

Characters-
[HIDE]
Gentaro Kisaragi- I really thought he was okay. He's extremely stupid when he's stupid and extremely badass when he wants to be.Seriously, he could get really dumb at times.Like how he tries to befriend certain Zodiarts.Seriously? One of them burnt down a school building! His silly motivational sayings are always entertaining to hear.I liked that as the series went on, we got to see how the actor improved. In the beginning, he could barely act, but now his acting is superb.

Kengo Utahoshi-I really dislike how they pulled off his character. He was my favorite character for the first 12 episodes. You know why?Because there, he wasn't in the background all the time. After he became friends with Gentaro, he became a background character until the plot called for him.He could have easily been the lovable jerk without being a complete asshole.Honestly, certain episodes, he only had like 4 lines. He's the one who's supposed to be the main guy that's relevant to the entire plot.

Joujima Yuuki- Yuuki was pretty modest until Meteor showed up.The "Trapped in Space" arc totally just showcases that she doesn't have to be an annoying little kid all the time. She could have been so much more. They could have even done a little bit more with Kengo and Yuuki's relationship.Instead, they write her out as some borderline mental schoolgirl who should belong in an asylum. After watching one of the HJU podcasts, my head canon is that eventually, near the later episodes, she was being exposed to more and more cosmic energy, with Meteor's arrival and Fourze's new forms. The cosmic energy got into her head and drove her to madness.

Ryusei-One of my favorite secondaries.I enjoyed his internal monologues and how he was just like "These guys are freaking lame..." in his head while on the outside he was like "HAHAHAHA SURE I LIKE YOU GUYS!"Sadly, like all secondary Riders, once his arc was over, he became a living punching bag.Seriously, how many times was he beat up, blown up, sent through a portal into space, and thrown at walls?

KRC-Most of them were forgotten at times and some of them didn't do anything.Honestly, after the prom arc, Shun was reduced to "WHYYYY RYUUSEIIII!!!!MIU LOVE MEEE!!GENTARO U I FRIENDZZZ HURRRRR".He even stopped using the Power Dizer.Goth girl was funny. It makes me annoyed how they just completely dropped the whole "JK IS A GUD INFORMANT!!" thing halfway through the series.Miu was just a figurehead President that really never did anything. Not that I remember.Ohsugi was a lovable bastard and I think he should get his own movie where he becomes Kamen Rider Suspendaze.Ran was so tsundere you can't even deny it.Haru was like Ryotaro Nogami.

Gamou-Most.suave.villain.ever.That guy is a true gentleman. He can even cook vegetable soup. He's also an Orphnoch, as shown when he mentioned that forced evolution kills you.

Leo-He lieks nuts.

Libra-I liked the bug dude. You could see how his acting improved from Blade. He lasted far longer than anyone could expect. His loyalty to Gamou made no sense in the end.The guy straight up insulted you in front of a dark clone of some underaged high school girl!

Scorpio-FEMALE LIGHT YAGAMI

Virgo-Emoto was a great character for a guy who lasted less than 10 episodes.I found his back story to be well done and his actor to be great. You just can't help but feel bad for him at the end on the ground with a giant hole in his chest being like "At least I had friends.."Yes, he's a heshe and his mask is a voice changer, but I still liked him.

Kijima-This guy should have his own show.I mean shows. No, I mean franchise.Best KR villain ever side by side with Mr.J.We need a Kijima Returns movie.I would've liked it if he lasted longer than he did, because maybe he could have saved the show near the end.

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG THAT WAS A LONG POST

I give it a B-.

Well, this finale was really a pathetic display of closing the final chapter of Fourze. I mean, besides Meteor's Suitless Rider Kick moment to Leo, the rest was like "After all that, now you wanna be friends with the Boss?!" I was like, "You've gotta be S*&%in' me!!!":disappoin

Well, that's by far the worst KR ending I have seen. After that, I am officially done with the Heisei Era of the Kamen Riders.
